Position Summary: The Sr. Sustaining Engineer, Electrical will sustain, troubleshoot, and improve complex electro‑mechanical systems throughout their production lifecycle. This position focuses on resolving advanced hardware and system‑level issues, supporting manufacturing, and driving product reliability and performance improvements. The Sr. Sustaining Engineer, Electromechanical Systems role requires strong expertise in complex electro‑mechanical troubleshooting, including root‑cause analysis of electrical, mechanical, and firmware interactions in both development and production environments. They will work in a team environment collaborating with Quality, Operations, and Research & Development.

FLSA: Exempt

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design and construct moderately complex electro-mechanical fixturing including electro-mechanical fixtures.
  • Complete design changes and execute change orders on both NPI and sustaining engineering projects.
  • Complete highly technical electrical builds for preliminary design verification testing.
  • Use project management techniques to procure tooling and equipment for new products to meet launch timelines and cost targets.
  • Manage engineering changes through appropriate systems, maintaining accurate documentation, revision control, and traceability.
  • Assume responsibility for achieving the cost, productivity and quality goals for a product line while working with cross functional teams to achieve goals.
  • Generate annual cost savings plan for areas of responsibility through a formal cost savings analysis using established procedures.
  • Create and maintain excel tracking logs and communicate change order and purchased-part status updates to cross-functional teams.
  • Collect data during testing and run and understand basic statistics including Weibull distribution analysis.
  • Develop PowerPoint presentations to effectively communicate testing results to stakeholders.
  • Create ISO compliant preliminary work instructions for use of fixtures and first pass engineering builds
  • Serve as a liaison between Supplier Quality Engineers and Design Engineers by communicating inspection results and validating precision measurements using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, DMMs, and other electrical analysis equipment.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, cost reduction, and production yield across complete systems, not individual components.
  • Perform as technical leader and resource to co-workers while actively mentoring less experienced Engineers on electro-mechanical systems.
  • Provide consultation on problem-solving teams across multiple products and processes and complete assigned tasks and projects per agreed upon timelines.
  • Visual inspection of optical products with or without magnification tools frequently required.
  • Complete some production engineering-based material rework as needed.
  • Must comply able to comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Education/Experience & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required, Master’s degree preferred; and a minimum 7-10 years of previous experience.
  • High mechanical aptitude and experience with hands-on mechanics.
  • Small hand tools and machinery used require manual dexterity and safety awareness.
  • Strong firmware skills in C, C++, and Python
  • Advanced reasoning skills including FMEA, 8D and other quality tools.
  • RF electronics experience, including Bluetooth.
  • Multi-layer PCA high density surface mount layout with flex and rigid flex.
  • Experience with various PCA interconnection methods.
  • Skilled with Altium PCA software and its standard component libraries.
  • Proficient in working within MS Office, Excel, and Word. Experience in Visual Basic, and Microsoft Access is preferred.
  • Must be highly skilled in writing and editing in English.
  • Must be able to clearly, concisely and accurately convey ideas and information to others, both verbally and in written form.
  • Fundamental understanding of revision and change order processes.
  • Intermediate understanding of statistics including statistical process control.
  • Exceptional attention to detail during data collection, prototype builds and testing.
  • Strong time management skills that provide for the ability to balance both large and small project timelines.

Working Conditions:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer using a keyboard and mouse performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to open file cabinets, reach with hands and arms, bend, and twist, lift and move files.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. Security Mandates.
