Description
The City of Fairfield, Ohio has an exciting opportunity for a Sustainability Program Manager. This position plays a vital role in the organization by reducing the City's environmental footprint and promoting sustainable practices. This person will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and management of sustainable initiatives for City.
Examples of Duties
• Develop and implement sustainability strategies for both City operations and the community, focusing on five (5) priority areas:
- Energy
- Mobility and transportation
- Resource conservation
- Open space preservation
- Business and community resiliency
• Identify and secure grant funding for sustainability initiatives.
• Develop and oversee sustainability-specific indicators and metrics and define specific measurable targets for the impact of the work, as well as a process for regular assessment and reflection on progress toward these targets and demonstrate ability to correct course of action as needed.
• Gather and analyze data to support and track progress on sustainability initiatives. Review data and research to guide the work of sustainability initiatives and oversee the preparation of periodic performance reports.
• Produce high-quality reports, media, and other communication materials to share progress with internal and external stakeholders. Create a centralized process and documentation effort to reflect all City sustainability work currently in process and coordinate with City departments to develop a sustainability framework.
• Manage budgeting of sustainability initiatives and guide development of strategic approach. Direct, manage and review sustainability policies, capital projects and program plans.
• Develop and implement outcome-based programs, best practices, research and evaluation tools to achieve sustainability throughout the City and a comprehensive approach for creating more sustainable communities.
• Build relationships with internal/external community stakeholders.
• Lead, assist and/or organize educational and public outreach events focused on sustainability efforts.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field; Master's degree preferred. Two or more years of sustainability program management experience or equivalent. Advanced oral and written communication skills. Valid driver's license.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.
Light amount of physical effort required in the office and at other City facilities. Ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop, lift, walk and climb stairs. Requires the ability to communicate verbally in person and via telephone, radio and computer. Requires ability to use various software programs, computer equipment, and other office equipment. Work is indoors and outdoors, requiring walking on uneven surfaces and occasional exposure to inclement weather. May require personal protective equipment when visiting project work sites. May require travel by car and driving to local and distant sites.

This position falls in the City of Fairfield's Band 2, which includes a salary range of $61,566 to $92,349 annually and includes a comprehensive benefits package. Compensation will be based on the selected candidate's experience and is anticipated to fall between $65,000 and $85,000 initially.
