Job description


The Department of Facilities Management & Development at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Associate Facilities Program Coordinator / Sustainability Coordinator. The successful candidate will:
  • Work collaboratively with campus constituencies, including capital facilities, planning, design, parking and transportation, campus living, student life, DEi, campus dining, procurement, maintenance, grounds, academic units, communications, student government, Environment, Health & Safety, and other offices on sustainability plans on campus to obtain short and long-range program goals as well as accountability for the campus's progress.
  • Assist leadership on campus sustainability efforts to foster sustainability broadly across campus units, fostering a culture of sustainability among students, faculty, staff, and visitors, and creating a campus sustainability network to enhance awareness, implementation, and success.
  • Collaborates across teams and agencies to develop and implement decarbonization and energy-saving initiatives.
  • Assist with the develop and imploration of plans, initiatives and actions, including overseeing and coordinating efforts to implement campus plans, the SUNY Climate and Sustainability Action Plan, and CLCPA and E022 requirements (state-operated campuses only).
  • Work with academic departments, Residential Life, and student groups to integrate sustainability into curricula, programs, and campus life.
  • Assist with the develop, coordination, and/or leverage sustainability outreach events (e.g., distinguished speaker series, campus sustainability fairs & summits, nationally renowned faculty lecturers, clothing and furniture swaps, cleanup, planting, and service events, and engagement with community partners).
  • Facilitate student interest and participation in the SUNY Climate Corps Internships, Empire State Service Corps Internships, and other green workforce programs.
  • Work with the campus advancement team to identify, seek, and secure grant funding, corporate partnerships, and other savings programs to leverage campus resources and further propel campus sustainability.
  • Engage with local, regional, state, and federal entities on best practices, compliance, and funding opportunities for sustainability initiatives.
  • Track metrics, report progress, and evaluate sustainability programs.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, Business or a related field;
    • or an Associate Degree and 2+ years of experience in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, Business or a related field.
  • Strong computer skills, including the ability to learn new software as necessary.
  • Must demonstrate integrity and sound judgment, leadership, budget management, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate (verbal and written) across diverse campus constituencies and to represent the campus in internal and external sustainability related matters.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive working/teaching environment.
  • Or, a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training.
