Position Summary: The Surgery Scheduler coordinates and schedules surgical procedures and related pre- and post-operative appointments. This individual will provide patients with financial estimates, collect pre-surgery deposits, and ensures clear communication between patients, physicians, and surgical teams. The Surgical Scheduler also supports Medical Assistants with organizing patient rooming and order entry as needed. Patient experience is of the utmost importance, and always a central focus for all FOA team members.

In this full-time position, you will play an essential part in ensuring every patient feels seen, heard, and cared for.
In this role, you will coordinate and schedule surgical procedures and related pre- and post-operative appointments, helping ensure smooth clinic flow. This is a great opportunity for someone who is eager to learn, thrives in a team environment, and is looking for long-term growth in orthopedics.
Compensation
$18.00 - $20.00 per hour
Compensation is based on experience and relevant clinical background.
What You'll Do
  • Schedule surgeries (in-office, outpatient, inpatient) and coordinate pre- and post-operative appointments as directed by physicians.
  • Obtain and track medical clearances, authorizations for surgery, ancillary procedures, and durable medical equipment (DME).
  • Secure financial estimates and collect pre-surgery deposits according to organizational policies.
  • Manage incoming calls, emails, and faxes related to surgery scheduling and coordinate responses in a timely manner.
  • Assist with patient rooming, entering orders, and clinical support as backup to Medical Assistants.
  • Ensure all necessary paperwork is completed and routed to meet physician and facility requirements.
  • Scan and maintain accurate electronic medical records of surgery-related documents.
  • Maintain a courteous and helpful demeanor toward patients, families, and staff.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and follow HIPAA compliance standards.
  • Collaborate closely with insurance providers, physicians, and other clinical staff to facilitate smooth surgery scheduling and authorization processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support surgical services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • 1-3 years surgical coordination or scheduling experience (preferred)
  • Medical Assistant Diploma or Certification
  • Athena EMR experience
  • Experience in orthopedics or another specialty clinic
