Job description

Position Summary:
The Surgical Technician is a key member of the surgical team, providing technical support during operative procedures in orthopedics, neurosurgery, and pain management. This role requires efficiency, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The Surgical Technician ensures all instruments, equipment, and supplies are available, sterile, and properly maintained to support safe and successful patient outcomes.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures, ensuring all instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies are ready and functioning.
  • Assist surgeons and RNs during orthopedic, neurosurgical, and pain management procedures by anticipating needs and maintaining the sterile field.
  • Handles surgical instruments, sponges, and supplies as directed during procedures.
  • Perform surgical counts with circulating staff according to hospital policy.
  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot specialized surgical equipment (e.g., drills, microscopes, navigation systems).
  • Ensure proper care, handling, and cleaning of surgical instruments post-procedure.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of surgical techniques, instrumentation, and safety standards specific to ortho, neuro, and pain specialties.
  • Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, and fellow technicians to maintain smooth workflow and optimal patient care.
  • Support continuous improvement by assisting with inventory, restocking, and quality assurance processes.
  • Uphold all infection control and safety policies at all times.
Qualifications:
  • Current Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • Minimum 1–2 years surgical tech experience preferred. 
  • Experience in orthopedic, neurosurgery, or pain management cases strongly desired.
  • BLS certification (Basic Life Support) required.
  • Ability to function effectively under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
Work Environment:
  • Fast-paced, high-volume operating room setting.
  • Frequent standing, lifting, and moving of equipment.
  • Must be able to maintain focus and professionalism during high-stress situations.
