What is supportive housing?

Supportive housing is a type of affordable housing that combines rental assistance with on-site services to help people who face complex challenges, such as homelessness, disability, or mental health issues, live more stable and independent lives. Residents typically have access to case management, health care, employment assistance, and other supportive services. This approach helps individuals achieve long-term housing stability while addressing their needs holistically.

Familiarity with client management systems, housing databases, and relevant certifications like CPR or trauma-informed care is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and crisis intervention abilities help professionals build trust and support residents effectively. These skills ensure that individuals in supportive housing receive the resources, stability, and advocacy necessary to achieve long-term housing success and personal well-being.
