Job description

Tygart Technology is seeking a Software Developer with an active Secret security clearance to support a Department of Justice program. This position offers the opportunity to develop and modernize enterprise applications supporting federal law enforcement by leveraging cloud-native technologies, microservices, event-driven architectures, and modern DevSecOps practices.
As part of an Agile development team, you'll help transform legacy systems into scalable cloud solutions while supporting highly available production environments.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Develop, create, and modify enterprise software applications and specialized utility programs.
  • Design, build, and maintain microservices using cloud-native architecture principles.
  • Develop RESTful APIs and scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
  • Operate and support enterprise-scale production systems, identifying, troubleshooting, and resolving complex technical issues.
  • Analyze user needs and design software solutions that support business and mission objectives.
  • Analyze, design, and optimize relational and NoSQL databases within application ecosystems.
  • Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and mentoring of junior developers to promote engineering excellence.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including DevOps, QA, Security, Product, and Architecture throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Produce clear technical documentation including API documentation, architecture decisions, and implementation guidance.
Program Objectives:
  • This role supports a large-scale modernization initiative focused on:
  • Migrating legacy mainframe functionality into a cloud-based environment utilizing AWS GovCloud.
  • Transitioning investigative search capabilities to Elasticsearch and related technologies to improve search speed and analytical capabilities for law enforcement users.
  • Building scalable microservices deployed on OpenShift-based container platforms following cloud-native design patterns.
  • Developing full-stack components where applicable, including user interface integration using modern JavaScript frameworks.
  • Supporting event-driven architectures and high-throughput data processing systems
On-Call Expectations
  • To support mission-critical operations, this position participates in a rotating on-call schedule of one week every four weeks.
  • During the assigned on-call rotation, team members are expected to:
  • Acknowledge phone, text, or email notifications within 15 minutes.
  • Remain within reasonable access to their secure government-issued work laptop.
  • Log in and begin assessing or troubleshooting issues within 60 minutes of notification.
The on-call rotation is designed to provide balanced coverage while ensuring dependable support for our federal partners.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience, or an Associate's degree with 7 years of professional experience.
  • Active Secret security clearance (or higher).
  • Strong proficiency in Object-Oriented Programming, Java, and the Spring Boot framework.
  • Experience developing microservices, REST APIs, and cloud-native applications.
  • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Helm charts, and container orchestration using OpenShift or similar platforms.
  • Experience designing, developing, and operating applications in AWS or comparable cloud environments.
  • Experience implementing event-driven architectures using Apache Kafka and enterprise messaging technologies such as IBM MQ, RabbitMQ, or ActiveMQ.
  • Experience with observability tools including distributed tracing, structured logging, and metrics collection using technologies such as OpenTelemetry, Kibana, or the ELK Stack.
  • Experience working within GitOps workflows using GitLab, GitHub, Bitbucket, ArgoCD, or similar platforms.
  • Experience working within Agile development environments, including Scrum or SAFe.
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian tool suite, including Jira, Confluence, and Bitbucket.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce technical documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Avro or Google Protocol Buffers (Protobuf).
  • Experience using artifact repository managers such as Artifactory or Nexus.
  • Experience with Elasticsearch.
