Job description


The Shipping and Receiving Lead oversees the accurate and timely receiving, inspection, storage, and shipment of products and materials. This role coordinates daily shipping and receiving activities, maintains inventory accuracy, and ensures compliance with company safety and quality standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Shipping & Receiving

  • Coordinate daily shipping and receiving activities to ensure the timely receipt, storage, and distribution of materials, equipment, and finished products.
  • Receive, inspect, verify, and document incoming shipments for accuracy, shortages, and damage.
  • Prepare, package, and coordinate outgoing shipments using the most efficient shipping methods.
  • Maintain shipping records, packing slips, bills of lading, and related documentation.
  • Coordinate with vendors, freight carriers, and internal departments regarding deliveries and shipment schedules.

Warehouse and Inventory

  • Maintain organized warehouse, shipping, receiving, mezzanine, and outdoor storage areas.
  • Coordinate inventory organization, material staging, and stock replenishment.
  • Monitor inventory accuracy and assist with inventory counts and cycle counts.
  • Ensure materials are properly labeled, stored, and protected from damage.
  • Coordinate movement of materials to support production and installation schedules.

Yard Operations

  • Coordinate organization and maintenance of the yard and storage areas.
  • Oversee the refurbishment, recycling, and reuse of sign structures and materials when appropriate.
  • Ensure returned materials, equipment, and installation components are inspected, organized, and properly stored.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard environment.

Equipment and Safety

  • Safely operate forklifts, company vehicles, and warehouse equipment following company safety procedures.
  • Perform routine inspections of warehouse equipment and report maintenance needs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse and shipping environment.
  • Support company safety initiatives and maintain compliance with company policies.

Coordination and Leadership

  • Coordinate daily workflow and prioritize shipping and receiving activities to support operational needs.
  • Serve as a resource to warehouse staff regarding shipping, receiving, inventory, and material movement.
  • Communicate effectively with Purchasing, Production, Installation, and other departments regarding material availability and delivery schedules.
  • Identify opportunities to improve warehouse organization, inventory accuracy, and operational efficiency.
  • Demonstrates reliable attendance and accurately records work time in accordance with company policy.
  • This position requires regular in-person attendance to support collaboration, operational needs, and the essential functions of the role. Employees are expected to work on-site during scheduled work hours.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS


  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse, inventory, or logistics operations, including at least one (1) year providing lead or day-to-day work direction to others
  • Experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and warehouse equipment.
  • Experience with inventory control and shipping documentation.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and inventory software.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates reliable attendance and accurately records work time in accordance with company policy.
  • Must be available to work overtime, weekends, and varying schedules based on project demands.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret work orders, packing slips, purchase orders, shipping documents, bills of lading, and operating instructions. Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, freight carriers, customers, and employees.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations involving quantities, measurements, inventory counts, weights, and shipping documentation.
