About Us
Finnegan is more than just a law firm - we are a powerhouse of innovation and strategy growth. We pride ourselves on providing top-tier intellectual property services globally. Our success is rooted in our emphasis on relationships with our clients and each other. We care about every individual, and it is why many professionals have spent their entire careers at Finnegan.
Role Overview
The Manager of Network Services is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, engineering, and operational management of the firm's enterprise network infrastructure. Reporting to the Director of Network Services, this role ensures the reliability, performance, and availability of network services supporting the firm's legal, administrative, and client-facing systems across a multi-office, international environment. The Manager translates strategy, standards, and architectural direction established by the Director into effective execution, operational excellence, and high-quality service delivery. This role leads a team of network engineers and administrators, oversees network operations and project execution, and ensures adherence to firmwide architecture, security, and governance requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Manage the day-to-day operations, stability, and performance of the firm's enterprise network services, including WAN/LAN, firewalls, routing and switching, wireless, VPN, load balancing, and segmented network environments.
  • Lead and supervise network engineers, providing technical guidance, work prioritization, coaching, performance management, and professional development.
  • Execute network upgrades, enhancements, and remediation initiatives in alignment with firmwide standards, roadmaps, and change-management practices.
  • Support and contribute to infrastructure modernization initiatives, technology refreshes, data center transitions, and cloud connectivity projects led by the Director of Network Services.
  • Oversee regular patching of various network infrastructure components.
  • Serve as the primary operational escalation point for network-related incidents; coordinate troubleshooting, root cause analysis, communication, and timely resolution.
  • Collaborate with the firm's cybersecurity function to implement required security controls, monitoring, and remediation within network infrastructure, while maintaining clear separation of ownership.
  • Coordinate with application, support, and IT operations teams to ensure integrated, reliable end-to-end service delivery across hybrid environments.
  • Monitor network availability, capacity, and performance metrics; analyze trends and recommend improvements to enhance resiliency and service quality.
  • Maintain accurate and current network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, standard operating procedures, and runbooks.
  • Support vendor and managed service provider relationships, including coordination, performance monitoring, and issue escalation, under the direction of the Director.
  • Ensure all network operations and changes comply with established governance, security, and risk-management requirements appropriate for a law firm environment.
  • Participate in on-call escalation and incident response activities as required.
  • Perform other related duties consistent with the scope and level of this role.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Six or more years of progressive experience in enterprise network engineering or infrastructure operations within a large-scale, multi-site or professional services environment.
  • Three or more years of experience leading or supervising technical staff, including network engineers or network analysts/administrators.
  • Demonstrated hands-on expertise in enterprise network technologies, including routing and switching, WAN/LAN design, VPN solutions, wireless networking, and network segmentation.
  • Experience supporting hybrid infrastructure environments, including data centers and cloud connectivity.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple operational priorities, incidents, and projects in a high-availability environment.
  • Experience working in partnership with cybersecurity teams to implement security requirements and remediation measures within network infrastructure.
  • Strong troubleshooting, technical documentation, and problem-resolution skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Sound judgment, attention to detail, and a service-oriented mindset appropriate to a professional services and law firm environment.

If you are a strategic thinker with a passion for promoting success, we would love to hear from you.
The role is based in our Washington, DC office and requires an onsite work schedule five days per week. The base annual pay range for this role is between $165,000 - $175,000. The base pay to be offered will vary and depend on skills and qualifications, experience, location and will also take into account internal equity. A full range of medical, financial and/or other benefits dependent on the position will also be offered.
