Job description

Description:

The Housekeeping Department has several student position openings for summer, full-time employment.

Responsibilities:

  1. 30% painting/moving furniture – daily – paint walls both interior and exterior as needed. No ladder work, ground level only. Pouring, stirring, mixing carrying paint. Clean up paint spills.
  2. 30% floor maintenance – daily – Waxing hard floors and hallways, vacuuming room carpets, sweeping hallways, gym floors, bleachers, dorm room floors, etc. Mopping hard floors.
  3. 40% custodial cleaning and trash removal – daily – clean all restrooms, lobbies, public areas, student rooms, etc. according to established daily practices which include floor scrubbing and mopping, trash removal, stocking paper supplies, surface cleaning and dusting, glass cleaning, sink & toilet bowl sanitation, polishing, etc.

Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be a current/recently graduated Newman University student.
  • Applicants must be flexible and reliable.
  • Must have a basic understanding of cleaning techniques.
  • Must be able to perform assigned duties in a reasonable amount of time and with an acceptable degree of quality.
  • Must be able to follow instructions.
  • Showing initiative is a plus.

Physical Requirements and Special Skills:

  • Must be able to operate basic household cleaning equipment.
  • Must demonstrate ability to paint standard size walls.
  • Walking, bending, stooping, stretching, reaching, lifting, kneeling is required.
  • Must be able to stand for 2-to-3-hour intervals.
  • Must be able to lift 30 – 35 pounds three/four times per hour.

Beginning and ending dates: May through August

Number of positions available: 10

Number of hours per week: 40 required

Days and times: Monday – Friday, 8am to 5pm (may vary), some weekends.

Position pays $10 per hour.
