Description
The Purpose
The Student Success Center Professional Tutor is responsible for the delivery of appropriate quality tutoring to Center clients. All Student Success Center Professional Tutors will work together to meet the needs of students enrolled at Blue Ridge Community College. Most duties will be specific to a particular content area while other duties will be general.

Guiding students along their educational journey is our calling and we are looking for like-minded teammates to help us serve our community. Whether a student is entering the workforce for the first time, entering a new profession, or just expanding their knowledge, we are here to provide the necessary tools to accomplish all their goals. Working together, no elevation is too high, and no summit is unreachable.
Examples of Duties
What You'll be Doing
  • Maintain mastery and currency in the credentialed field. Work cooperatively with other instructors and tutors in the delivery of quality tutoring to Student Success Center (SSC) clients.
  • Keep abreast of and implement current "best practices" in tutoring adult learners.
  • Maintain student records (i.e. referrals and insuring student's record time in SSC).
  • Responsible for generating supplemental lessons to increase student success in courses, developing worksheets, and workshops. โ€ข Assist in retention efforts through follow-up of students.
  • Assist in development and presentation of living and learning workshops on various topics such as dealing with test anxiety and study skills.
  • Assist in coordination of education information sessions designed to present information about SSC services.
  • Insure compliance with policies of BRCC, NC Community College System, and applicable state, local and federal agencies.
  • Maintain the technical competencies necessary to the job function.
  • Represent BRCC at appropriate meetings, activities, and conferences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications
Education: A bachelor degree in the field (math or English) from an Accredited four year institution.
Experience: All applicants must provide verifiable and relevant professional experience in a workplace setting or demonstrated instructional/teaching environment.
Skills and the Know-How
Current knowledge in the field. Possess strong personal and professional integrity, effective verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety. Ability to effectively teach adult and young adult students at the basic and secondary levels. Ability to work effectively in an instructional team. Ability to relate to persons of diverse backgrounds and experience.

Physical Demands: The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
