Job description

About the Positions:

Part-Time Youth Instructors serving Elementary and Middle grades positions available.

The Youth Instructor works closely with the Program Manager and Education Specialist Team to implement a wide variety of academic and enrichment activities to ensure a high-quality program is delivered daily. Youth Instructors are responsible for assisting, organizing, and implementing the day-to-day program operations. The instructor will facilitate academic support, program material and activities for all participants. Instructors are required to operate consistently within the program standards, mission, and guidelines as outlined by the Agape Youth & Family Staff Handbook. This position is active through the 2026-2027 after-school and/or summer camp school year and will continue into all school/summer terms to follow upon a satisfactory term-end review (i.e. - end of summer camp).

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Academic Support

  • Provide students with homework assistance to help improve academic skills and regular school day performance.
  • Working directly with students in one-on-one and group settings independently (some settings are virtual during COVID-19 safety protocols).
  • Developing curriculum for after-school program settings.
  • Assist Education Specialist in developing individual student success plans for at-risk students.
  • Implement program enrichment activities.
  • Foster a comfortable learning environment to enhance participants’ learning styles.
  • Engage participants in fun educational program activities.

Safe and Healthy Environment

  • Ensure the safety of all participants, prevent accidents through the enforcement of policies, rules, and regulations; administer first aid within trained ability; contact the appropriate medical authorities when necessary.
  • Implement appropriate management techniques to maintain a cooperative and creative instructional environment.
  • Establish a relationship with each child and know his or her present level of understanding; consider the needs of all the children and treat each child with respect and dignity.
  • Establish classroom rules and daily scheduled routines for students.
  • Ensure the facility is ready for use before students arrive. This may include pre- or post-cleanup.
  • Create and maintain an environment that is safe, clean, and student friendly.
  • Serves as bus monitor to ensure all students are safely transported to and from all Agape programming.
  • Comfortable driving Mini Bus/Shuttle Van (Non-CDL) and safely transport students/staff to and from Agape programming. (Not required)
  • Complete training material in relation to providing safe and healthy environments for children.

Volunteer Management

  • Provide instructional materials, resources, and feedback to tutors (Homework Buddies) for improving student’s academic skills.
  • Communicate the needs, backgrounds, learning styles, and learning difficulties of students who are matched with tutors.
  • Assist tutors and parent volunteers.
  • Interface with partnership representatives or volunteers visiting the program.

Administrative Duties

  • Reports all incidents to the supervisor, and completely fills out proper health log and/or accident/incident forms.
  • Must effectively use Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports, logbook documentation, and daily attendance.
  • Follows proper setup and breakdown checklist procedures.
  • Plans daily enrichment activities and keeps a record of monthly highlights.
  • Reports all plans to the Education Specialist and/or Program Manager for approval before implementing.
  • Follows budgeting guidelines for their classroom.
  • Completes timesheets properly and with accuracy.

DESIRED REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience working in an after-school program or similar environment.
  • Must have excellent leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Desire and ability to work with children of all ages.
  • Demonstrates responsibility, dependability, efficiency, and integrity.
  • Demonstrates maturity and ability to relate to students as an authority figure and mentor.
  • Ability to lead, plan, organize, and implement program activities.
  • Must be a self-starter and comfortable working independently.
  • Ability to work independently as a member of a team and the ability to accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
  • May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. in various forms.
  • May be required to sit, stand, or maintain physical activity for extended periods of time.
  • Must exhibit patience and understanding.
  • Receives and follows detailed instructions.
  • Responds to situations with appropriate action.
  • Must be flexible and capable of working under pressure in an ever-changing environment.

Other Helpful Desired Qualifications (not required)

  • Adult and Child CPR/First Aid/AED Certification, or willing to obtain upon hire
  • Conversational or Fluent in Spanish.
  • If comfortable - occasionally safely transporting students by driving the Mini Bus/Shuttle Van or minivan (Non-CDL). A Valid driver's license with clean MVR and additional training would be required for company vehicle operation and student transport.
