Cybersecurity and Maker Space Outreach Educator
Department Summary
The Center for the Advancement of STEM Education (CASE) offers unique STEM outreach opportunities to local students and teachers. Programs include experiences at BSU for hands-on STEM activities, traveling field trips, virtual STEM experiences, Science Academy classes during winter and summer breaks from school, and community STEM programs., and professional development for teaching STEM. These programs allow students and teachers to work as scientists and are designed to inspire participants about science while providing them with the foundations necessary for further scientific exploration and teaching.
Position Summary
The Educator hired for this position will work in the Cyber Range and/or the Maker Space. The Cyber Security Outreach Educator will administer curriculum for modules in CASE outreach programs to participants. During this experience, educators will instruct participants on background curriculum, including ethical considerations, hands-on computer use and collaborative activities. They will also be tasked with maintaining order within the classroom. They will work with and instruct BSU student instructors, who will provide support to the instructor during the class.
The Cyber Security Outreach Educator may work with CASE and Cyber Range administrators and faculty to refine, align, and test curriculum for use in CASE outreach programs, including the CASE Science Academy, daily visits to BSU for hands-on STEM activities, professional development workshops, traveling field trips, and any other CASE initiative.
The Maker Space Outreach Educator will facilitate engaging, hands-on curriculum for modules in CASE outreach programs for middle and high school students. Educators will lead sessions on STEM topics, including collaborative activities and interactive technology experiences in a makerspace setting. They will manage classroom dynamics and work closely with BSU student instructors who will assist in delivering instruction. The Maker Space Outreach Educator may work with CASE and Maker Space administrators and faculty to refine, align, and test curriculum for use in CASE outreach programs.
Work is based on outreach demand. Typical shifts are approximately 5 hours on days with scheduled visits. There is no fixed schedule - shifts vary based on school requests.

Essential Duties
โ€ข Administer instruction and demonstration for middle and high school students participating in Cyber Security and/or Maker Space outreach programs as well as other CASE events.
โ€ข Aid in curriculum development and refinement and lesson standard alignment for CASE programs.
Required Qualifications
โ€ข Bachelor's degree in a related field
โ€ข Experience instructing middle or high school students
โ€ข Strong understanding of STEM topics relevant to cybersecurity and/or makerspace education
โ€ข Experience developing instructional materials, including protocols, presentations, and hands-on assessments
โ€ข Proficiency with MS Office programs
โ€ข Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
โ€ข Reliability and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
