JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of professional staff, supports laboratory operations, performs maintenance functions, and completes non-technical routine laboratory tests and procedures.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Washes laboratory glassware, instruments and/or cages after use. Replaces defective or broken glassware/instruments from stock
2. Sterilizes and/or stores clean glassware, instruments, and/or changes.
3. Maintains a clean and sterilized work area in accordance with standard laboratory practices and procedures. Disposes of contaminated matter as needed.
4. Distributes supplies and equipment for use as directed.
5. Conducts non-technical, routine laboratory tests and procedures under the direction of professional staff.
6. May set up and operate laboratory equipment in preparation for specimen examinations.
7. Maintains simple laboratory records and inventory for supplies and reagents.
8. Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies by cleaning and maintaining quality assurance records.
9. May assist with experiments using animals by restraining them for inoculation and anesthetization.
10. Performs other duties as assigned by management.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Ability to operate laboratory equipment
Knowledge of the maintenance of routine records and reports
Ability to learn elementary laboratory techniques and safety precautions
