UW Continuum College expands the reach of the University of Washington by delivering educational programs that meet the needs of learners at all phases of their lives. We're focused on removing obstacles to relevant educational opportunities by addressing geographic, financial, length of commitment, and time constraints, increasing access to knowledge for more people. By looking ahead and experimenting with new approaches, we're creating new educational opportunities to help people thrive in a world of change.
UW Continuum College (UWC² ) has a range of outstanding opportunities for instructional assistants to work on special course topics designed for children and teens in our Youth and Teen programs (YTP). Youth & Teen Programs run academically focused enrichment courses during winter, spring and summer quarters. Our instructional assistants assist in the integration of UW resources and delivery of academically rich curricula offered in a fun, safe learning environment both in online and in-person formats. In-person classes are held on the UW Seattle campus during summer session only. Online classes are offered during all program sessions. Applicants will be considered for courses occurring January 2026 - August 2026.
The pay range for these positions is $21.30-36.30 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Length of assignments and shifts vary depending on specific staffing needs of individual courses and programs.
Youth and Teen program Instructional Assistants...
  • Supervise enrolled youth (facilitating online or in-person interactions and activities)
  • Take daily attendance promptly and accurately
  • Participate in opening/closing events associated with specific program
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students under their supervision, adhering to applicable UW and YTP policies of interactions with youth
  • Attend staff orientation and meetings as required
  • Assist in creating a classroom environment conducive to cooperative and hands-on learning
  • Notify Youth and Teen Program administrative staff of any issues and concerns
  • Schedule depending, assist with midday supervised lunch of middle and elementary school students
  • Other duties as assigned

YTP offers courses in-person and online - information on YTP programs may be found at https://www.youth-teen.uw.edu/.
Employees in the UWC² Youth and Teen Program must complete all required training and successfully pass a criminal background check as a condition of employment.
UWC² Extension Lecturers / Instructional Assistants are Academic Staff, not faculty. These are part-time, temporary positions.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Comfortable working online in Canvas and Zoom (Virtual classes)
  • Experience working withyouthin informal learning settings
  • Ability to collaborate with and support classroom instructors
  • Experience supportingyouthof differing abilities, motivational levels, and learning styles
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
  • Ability and desire to successfully work with individuals from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Willingness to provide instructional support with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of professionalism, punctuality, and content relevance for youth
  • Legal authorization to work and receive compensation in the United States

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Advanced student, educator, or professional in selected field, Bachelor's preferred
