The Interpretive Hiking Guide position offers the guests who visit Denali an opportunity to experience the surroundings of the area in a more intimate manner than many of the larger group activities offered. The guide will act as a personal interpreter on the Denali areas' cultural, historical and natural resources while providing support to guests eager to experience the outdoor environment.

Summer days in Alaska stretch nearly endlessly, with up to 20 hours of daylight on the Summer Solstice. Spanning 6.2 million acres, Denali National Park & Preserve is home to Denali, the highest peak in North America, and attracts over half a million visitors annually. Conveniently accessible by road-4.5 hours from Anchorage and 2 hours from Fairbanks-this breathtaking area offers daily bus services along the park road throughout the warm summer months, providing opportunities for hiking, wildlife viewing, climbing, and camping. 

Located just 7 miles south of the entrance to Denali National Park, the Denali Park Village Hotel operates from May to September. Our guests enjoy comfortable accommodations, exceptional dining options, and live entertainment in a stunning natural setting. 

Position Details: This exciting seasonal role is available from May 24 - September 7, 2026. We offer competitive wages, comfortable on-site housing, and a variety of fun activities to keep your summer vibrant. Stay active in our on-site gym and enjoy an inclusive meal plan for just $16 a day.

Job Responsibilities
  • The Interpretive Hiking Guide will be assigned with the responsibility of leading guests of all ages on an organized and informative excursion. 
  • The Guide will be responsible for educating themselves on the local ecology, geology, history and culture so that they are well-prepared to interpretive these aspects of the Denali area to the guest. 
  • The Guide will typically get their assignment on the day before the hike is scheduled. 
  • Report for work shift ready for the hike with the essential gear outlined in the Safety and Operations manual. 
  • Ensure all gear is in good condition and depart for their pick-up/meeting assignments. 
  • The Guide will double check to make sure that both the First Aid kit and the emergency cell phone are on their person. 
  • The Guide will greet each guest, brief them on the plans for the activity, present them with the Acknowledgement of Risk form and collect the necessary. vouchers or tickets from each participant. 
  • Givea detailed safety briefing and assess each guest on their ability to participate in the activity. 
  • Conduct the activity, maintaining control and leadership, and provide valuable interpretive knowledge for the guests. 
  • Arrive prepared to perform the duties of Support Staff when hikes or other interpretive activities are not scheduled. 
  • Capable of safely operating a 15-passenger van on local roads and highways and will be trained in the proper procedures for filling out. required training and operational paperwork. 
  • Know and comply with all company policies and procedures regarding safety, security, emergencies and energy. 
  • Report to work on time and in complete uniform.

Qualifications

    Training in First Aid protocols such as Wilderness First Responder, Wilderness Advanced First Aid, Wilderness EMT or EMT/Paramedic preferred
    Multi-lingual skills a plus  
    Must have extensive experience guiding in the same or related environment
    Sit, stand and walk for varied amounts of time
    Demonstrates interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
    Must be available to work flexible hours


This role may have physical demands including, but not limited to, lifting, bending, pushing, pulling and/or extended walking and standing. This role may also require uniforms and/or usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
