What is a success manager?

Success Managers, often called Customer Success Managers (CSMs), are professionals who work to ensure that customers achieve their desired outcomes when using a company's products or services. They build strong relationships with clients, provide onboarding and training, and act as the main point of contact for resolving issues and gathering feedback. Success Managers also help identify opportunities for customers to gain more value and may work with sales or support teams to improve the overall customer experience. Their main goal is to drive customer satisfaction, retention, and long-term loyalty.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a success manager?

To thrive as a Success Manager, you need strong relationship management, customer service acumen, and a solid understanding of the product or service, often supported by a bachelor’s degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM platforms like Salesforce, data analysis tools, and project management systems is typically required. Outstanding communication, problem-solving, and proactive listening skills help you build trust and anticipate client needs. These abilities are crucial for ensuring client satisfaction, driving retention, and fostering long-term business growth.

How does a success manager typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to support client outcomes?

Success Managers regularly work with departments like Sales, Product, and Support to ensure clients achieve their desired outcomes with the company's products or services. This often involves coordinating onboarding processes, communicating client feedback to product teams, and working alongside support to resolve any issues that arise. Effective collaboration helps build lasting client relationships and drives continuous improvement. Success Managers also participate in regular meetings with these teams to align on goals and share insights, making teamwork a core part of the role.

Job description

About Maddox + You

As a member of our Customer Success Operations team, you will be a primary stakeholder for our enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. Your focus will be on entering new sales orders into the ERP and updating them throughout their life cycle. Your work ensures that our customers receive accurate order confirmations, the correct products, and that our internal teams have the accurate, timely data they need to perform their job functions. Attention to detail and organizational skills are paramount in this role. You will also be responsible for answering general customer service phone calls and directing callers to the appropriate parties to resolve their issues.

This position is one of Maddox's oldest commercial positions, with a proven playbook and a strong team, but we are growing rapidly, so adaptability is critical in this role.

More About You:

  • You are technically savvy with modern platforms (Google Suites, etc). If you prefer a more old-school approach (i.e., stacks of sticky notes), you will struggle in this role.
  • You have keen attention to detail and can perform recurring tasks accurately and precisely, particularly regarding data entry.
  • You are autonomous and capable of managing your own time and workflows.
  • You are comfortable with phone communication and able to think quickly on your feet during conversations.
  • You are capable of balancing multiple tasks without becoming overwhelmed.
  • You welcome constructive feedback to help you develop in your role.

Basics

  • Full-time. The schedule is generally 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
  • Drug-free workplace.

Comprehensive Full-Time Benefits, including:

  • 3 Weeks Paid Time Off (PTO) (and an additional week for managers, and an additional week after 5 years).
  • Health & Wellness: Can be taken as traditional insurance, or as cash in lieu of benefits. Benefit amounts vary based on age, family status, and eligibility, but as an example, in most circumstances, an employee with a spouse and 3 kids, would be eligible for $19,200 / year or more.
  • Paid paternity/maternity leave
  • 401k with 100% match up to 8% of wages.
  • Paid holidays, marriage and family gifts to celebrate significant life events, and other reimbursements and voluntary benefits and coverages (such as Vision, Dental, Short Term Disability, Additional Life Insurance, Accident, etc), as eligible.

Skills & Experience

Experience with ERP systems is great, but not required. If you are aligned with our Core Values and have a teachable attitude, you are a candidate for this position.

Pro Tip: We get a LOT of applicants, so if you want to stand out, write a few sentences telling us what stood out to you, and why you think you'd thrive in this particular opportunity.
