Job description

Substitute Bus Aide/Monitor
An ESS substitute bus aide plays an integral role assisting the school bus driver in providing a safe, orderly and efficient transportation service for student. They support the needs of students during routine activities and emergency situations. The bus aide effectively supervises and manages the behavior of the student and often provide support for an individual student or group of student with special needs and/or disabilities.
Substitute bus aides are also known as bus monitors and transportation assistants.
Responsibilities
  • Assists in maintaining discipline and attending to the needs of students on assigned bus route
  • Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each students' medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs
  • Assists the Bus Driver, as needed, in reporting any behavioral or mechanical issues
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and complete reports and records as requested by administration
  • Maintain appropriate relations with parents and school personnel
  • Maintain firm and appropriate relations with students
  • Notify the Transportation Supervisor/front office personnel as far in advance as possible of the need for a substitute
  • Report all complaints to the Transportation Supervisor
  • Assist in keeping the buses clean
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Must be 21 years old
  • High School diploma or equivalent (Preferred)
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check
  • Ability to follow verbal instructions; ability to operate safety/adaptive equipment; ability to work with children with disabilities
