Position Details

The International Programs Office at The University of Tampa has an opening for an Education Abroad Advisor to work in a fast-paced environment counseling students on UT's portfolio of education abroad options including UT travel courses, Spartans Academy Abroad, sophomore semester abroad, semester/year/summer abroad, J-term abroad, international internships, student research abroad, language abroad and community service learning abroad. The advisor also assists faculty in the development and coordination of materials and programs that engage and promote education abroad. The Education Abroad Advisor will report directly to the Associate Dean of International Programs.

Responsibilities:

1. Counsel and advise education abroad students on issues related to academic issues, prerequisites, transfer credits, medical insurance and cultural adjustment.

2. Assist with tracking student's education abroad requirements including the maintenance of the VIA TRM Study Abroad database to ensure accuracy of student enrollments and monetary deposits in education abroad programs.

3. Assist with tracking outcomes assessment measures including student evaluations of education abroad experiences.

4. Communicate UT's education abroad policies and procedures including emergency preparedness and crisis management to faculty, students, staff and parents.

5. Monitor and enforce education abroad policies and procedures with faculty, students, staff parents and alumni.

6. Monitor international travel advisories, alerts and public announcements.

7. Assist with the development and revision of materials (i.e. newsletters, promotional materials, the VIA TRM Study Abroad database, Canvas site, etc.) and information sessions to keep students, staff and faculty informed on education abroad policies and procedures.

8. Help organize education abroad displays, information and promotional materials in print and electronic forms.

9. Help plan and further develop fall and spring semester education abroad fairs, information sessions, pre-departure sessions, and re-entry.

10. Co-advise student organizations involving education abroad alumni.

11. Assist with the development and enhanced coordination of education abroad programming.

12. Attend and assist with presentations on education abroad programs at recruiting events, open houses, orientations, information sessions, and pre-departure sessions.

13. Perform basic office functions and other duties as assigned including answering phones, preparing wire transfers, check requisitions, ordering office supplies and calendaring items.

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred.

2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

3. Experience using VIA TRM's Study Abroad database system preferred.

4. Counseling or advising experience in an International Programs Office in a university setting preferred.

5. Highly proficient in Microsoft office products including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

6. Participation in an Education Abroad Experience or relevant work experience abroad preferred.

7. Proficient in Adobe In-Design preferred.

8. Knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.

9. Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.

Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Summer - Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
