The mission of the Student Outreach & Support team is to help students succeed at the George Washington University by connecting them to support resources, helping them develop plans of action to meet their goals, and navigating challenging circumstances. The Student Support team aims to create an inclusive and welcoming environment to support students in building skills around self-awareness, self-advocacy, resilience, and navigating the university to maximize their GW experience.
Position Specific Summary
The Store Graduate Assistant provides administrative, operational, and programmatic support to the Office of Student Support, with primary responsibility for assisting in the management and ongoing development of GW's on-campus food pantry called The Store and basic needs resource center. This position will report to the Program Associate for Basic Needs Support and is an in-person role based at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of The Store, including inventory management, stocking, shopper support, and volunteer coordination.
  • Manage The Store email account and serve as a primary point of contact for students, volunteers, and campus partners.
  • Coordinate food deliveries, donation drives, and volunteer restocking events.
  • Supervise, train, and support 3-6 Federal Work Study Store Managers, including facilitating regular team meetings and individual check-ins.
  • Assist with volunteer recruitment, onboarding, training, and retention efforts.
  • Support the operations of The Store Student Advisory Board, including planning and facilitating quarterly meetings.
  • Develop surveys, assessments, and reports to evaluate program effectiveness and improve the shopper experience.
  • Assist with data collection, analysis, and reporting related to pantry usage and student needs.
  • Create and manage content for The Store's social media platforms, website, and physical marketing materials.
  • Provide educational tours of The Store for students, campus partners, and visitors.
  • Represent the Office of Student Support and The Store at orientation programs, resource fairs, and other campus events.
  • Other duties as assigned by direct supervisor including special projects, presentations, and initiatives related to student basic needs, food security, and student well-being.
  • Work approximately 15-20 hours per week.

Qualifications:
Required
  • Enrolled in a graduate degree program at George Washington University Fall 2026-and Spring 2027.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Can lift 50 pounds or more with reasonable accommodation.

Standard Position Description
The student will assist in the management and leading of special projects. Tasks may include: leading and organizing mid to large scale projects, designing project timelines and goals, performing research, coordinating with stakeholders and the project team, reporting updates and outcomes with project leaders, building and organizing leadership development programs for students, managing student staff. Special projects or other duties may be assigned related to specific departmental needs.
