Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno is seeking two Student Conduct Specialists. The Specialist serves as a primary adjudicator and investigator within the Office of Student Conduct. This role is responsible for the impartial administration of the Student Code of Conduct, requiring a high degree of investigative rigor, professional skepticism, and adherence to due process. The successful candidate will navigate complex, high-volume caseloads involving sensitive and graphic information, maintaining objective professional detachment while ensuring all actions align with university policy and state/federal regulatory requirements. This position acts as a critical administrative link between student behavior, institutional policy, and legal compliance.
Key responsibilities include:
Conduct & Adjudication
Conduct Investigations: Handle reports of alleged violations of the Student Code of Conduct, as directed by the Assistant Dean of Student Conduct.
Adjudication: Investigate and adjudicate reported violations, applying campus sanctioning guidelines to determine appropriate interventions or referrals for students and student organizations found responsible.
Facilitate Hearings: Serve as the Hearing Administrator for hearings before the Student Conduct Board and the Academic Integrity Board.
Academic Integrity Intake & Case Oversight: Serve as the administrative point of contact for academic integrity complaints; initiate official case files, manage the progression of formal appeals and hearings, and ensure all procedural requirements are met throughout the appeal lifecycle.
Legal Coordination: Work closely with the General Counsel's office to protect the rights of all parties involved in conduct cases and to mitigate the university's liability.
Operational & Systems Management
Incident Response: Manage high-volume digital and physical case files within the conduct database (e.g., Maxient) with meticulous accuracy and strict adherence to procedural timelines.
Investigative Documentation: Translate complex situations into professional correspondence that adheres to strict policy and legal standards.
Crisis Response & Referral: Manage immediate behavioral crises or high-conflict situations involving students during the conduct process; apply safety protocols and de-escalation techniques, and execute immediate referrals for all support-related needs (e.g., food insecurity, housing, mental health, or basic needs).
Operational Autonomy & Project Management: Independently manage multiple projects, shifting deadlines, and administrative workflows with minimal oversight and strict attention to detail.
Systems Proficiency & Data Integrity: Expert-level use of conduct-specific databases (e.g., Maxient) and office technology to maintain accurate, audit-ready records and manage high-volume digital workflows.
Documentation Updates: Maintain the university website and catalog by updating information related to the Student Code of Conduct as necessary.
Institutional Policy & Compliance Coordination
Inter-Departmental Liaison: Facilitate the standardized flow of information between the University Police Department - Northern Command, the Center for Civil Rights & Equal Access, and the Office of Residential Life, Housing & Food Services to ensure all incident reports are documented, tracked, and resolved according to university policy.
Sanction Management & Tracking: Oversee the administrative lifecycle of disciplinary sanctions by monitoring student compliance, tracking completion deadlines, and maintaining accurate records within the conduct database. This includes auditing sanction data to ensure institutional accountability and following up on non-compliance in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
Policy Communication & Presentations: Develop and deliver presentations focused on the clear dissemination of institutional regulations, disciplinary procedures, and the consequences of non-compliance to ensure procedural transparency and mitigate university liability.
This role involves the regular review and processing of case files, incident reports, interviews, and hearing materials that may contain sensitive or graphic information, including, but not limited to, sexual misconduct, violence, mental health crises, and substance abuse. Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of related work experience OR
Master's Degree and one (1) year of related work experience
Related Experience: Professional experience in student conduct administration; Residential Life (with a demonstrated emphasis on conduct adjudication, policy enforcement, and investigative documentation); Human Resources (Employee Relations/Compliance); Title IX/Civil Rights investigation; Military leadership or administrative justice (JAG/IG); ADA/Disability compliance; legal/paralegal work; or other high-volume regulatory disciplines or related experience.
Certification and Licensure
NV Driver's License within 30 days of hire or alternate form of transportation necessary to meet the requirements of this position.
Schedule or Travel Requirements
Variable Work Schedule (to include occasional nights and weekends)
Occasional Travel (local for training and investigations and regional and national for trainings and conferences)
Compensation Grade
Administrative Faculty - B
Range for this position is $64,000 - $66,100 annually
