Hooks, Meng & Clement (HMC) is seeking a motivated Law Clerk to join our growing Carson City office. HMC focuses on Workers' Compensation Insurance Defense, OSHA Employer Representation, and Industrial Insurance Litigation, representing employers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators throughout Nevada.
This position offers current law students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain hands-on litigation experience while working alongside experienced attorneys. Law Clerks assist with legal research, drafting pleadings and motions, case analysis, and attorney support on active litigation matters.
HMC is committed to mentorship and professional development, providing meaningful responsibilities, practical legal training, and the opportunity to build the skills needed for a successful legal career.
Responsibilities
โ€ข Conduct legal research on various legal topics and provide concise summaries and analysis to support the firm's attorneys
โ€ข Communicate professionally and effectively with clients, court staff, and opposing counsel, as directed by attorneys
โ€ข Assist with the preparation and drafting of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, discovery, and correspondence
โ€ข Support case management tasks such as scheduling court appearances, preparing case summaries, tracking deadlines, and organizing case files
โ€ข Maintain accurate and organized electronic files using the Filevine case management system
โ€ข Meet or exceed monthly billing requirements utilizing the Clio billing system
โ€ข Collaborate closely with attorneys and staff to ensure cases progress efficiently and deadlines are consistently met
Qualifications
โ€ข Education: Bachelor's degree and must have graduated from or currently be attending law school.
โ€ข Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
โ€ข Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
โ€ข Interpersonal Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively on a team but also work independently.
โ€ข Legal Knowledge: Basic understanding of the legal system and legal terminology.
โ€ข Must live in the Northern Nevada area, as this is an in-office position.
