DWED-Adult Basic Education (ABE) Student Ambassadors serve as peer leaders who support English as a Second Language (ESL) and High School Equivalency (HSE) students as they begin and continue their learning journey at DWED's ABE program. Ambassadors help create a welcoming, student-centered environment by conducting program orientations, engaging students in campus and DWED activities, providing peer support, and assisting with communication, outreach, and social media efforts.

This role is ideal for current or former ABE/ESL/HSE students, or CSN students, who want leadership experience, enjoy helping others, and are passionate about student success.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Orientations & Student Onboarding

  • Assist staff with preparing and delivering ABE/ESL/HSE program orientations (in-person and virtual).

  • Greet students, help with check-in, and guide them through onboarding steps such as testing, forms, and navigating campus spaces.

  • Share personal experiences to help new students understand expectations, resources, and opportunities at CSN.

  • Support digital literacy onboarding (Canvas basics, email setup, MyCSN navigation, etc.) under staff supervision.

Student Engagement & Involvement Activities

  • Help develop and facilitate student engagement activities such as workshops, study groups, cultural events, and peer-learning sessions.

  • Promote events and encourage ongoing participation to build a strong sense of community in ESL and HSE programs.

  • Assist with gathering student feedback to improve activities and support services.

Peer Mentoring & Student Support

  • Participate in the development and launch of a peer mentoring program for ESL/HSE learners.

  • Provide informal mentoring and encouragement to new and continuing students (answer questions, offer guidance, model effective study habits).

  • Connect students to instructors, advisors, and support services when needs extend beyond peer support.

Communication Support

  • Assist with creating student-focused content such as short videos and testimonials that highlight class opportunities, success stories, and campus resources.

  • Help maintain active communication channels with students (e.g., Sendhub, Modern Campus, email, WhatsApp groups, depending on department needs).

  • Support outreach campaigns during enrollment periods.

Student Success & General Program Support

  • Help with classroom materials, computer lab support, and navigating digital tools as needed.

  • Participate in staff meetings or trainings designed for ambassador development.

  • Assist with special projects that enhance ABE/ESL/HSE visibility, student retention, and community building.

  • Serve as a positive representative of DWED and CSN at events, orientations, and community outreach activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a current CSN student or recent participant in the ABE ESL/HSE programs.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to maintain a professional attitude.

  • Willingness to learn new tasks, including basic office and digital tools.

Preferred Qualifications
