Position Announcement
Academic Tutoring at UVU is seeking student tutors who will work one-on-one and with groups to help students navigate the challenges of their assigned courses and content material. Academic Tutoring embraces the power of students helping students. It supports all individuals- regardless of identity, culture, point of view, or background-as they navigate the challenges associated with their educational goals. With a focus on gateway major courses, certified peer tutors work alongside each student to foster serious exploration and inspire lifelong learning.
Summary of Responsibilities
On top of face-to-face appointments, tutors may be assigned to the online tutoring lab or other labs across campus. Tutors are also expected to contribute to specific Academic Tutoring initiatives like conducting class visits, creating and updating handouts, and designing workshops.
Effective tutors can:
  • Collaborate with students to enhance their content knowledge.
  • Communicate complex ideas and concepts in a clear, concise, and friendly manner.
  • Read, write, and otherwise convey ideas in English.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Cultivate professional relationships with staff, faculty, and students.
  • Contribute to the smooth operation of the tutoring labs and participate in ongoing training.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
  • Must be a current UVU student
  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA
  • Grade of B or better in CYBR 2700 or IT 2700

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Grade of B or better in CYBR 4250, CYBR 4350, or INFO 4370

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Knowledgeable about a wide range of Cybersecurity curricula
  • Preferred knowledge about Cybersecurity software such as Kali Linux, Wireshark, CyberChef, Burp Suite, or Nmap
  • Well-versed in fundamental study skills and strategies
  • Creative problem solvers who can find new approaches to challenges
  • Excellent communicators who can adapt their coaching to meet a variety of needs and backgrounds
  • Reliable with strong time and task-management skills
  • Familiar with available student resources on campus
