Job description

Description
The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB) in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts at the University of Michigan solicits applications for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. The faculty position will be tenure track with a university year appointment starting August 25, 2027 or January 1, 2028. Successful candidates will be expected to establish a vigorous, extramurally funded research program and provide instruction to both undergraduate and graduate students.
Qualifications
We welcome applications from outstanding biological scientists in all areas of cellular/molecular biology in prokaryotes, plants, and animals. Experimental approaches may include (but are not limited to) biochemical, genetic, cellular, and organismal levels. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. All applications must be submitted online at https://apply.interfolio.com/189419. You will be asked to provide the following information: A cover letter, a curriculum vitae, a brief summary of recent research accomplishments and statement of future research plans, a statement of teaching interests and philosophy, a leadership/service statement and the contact information for three recommendation letter writers (the system will automatically send requests to the letter writers you provide. To ensure full consideration, your application materials should be received by Thursday, October 1, 2026 (and recommendation letters no later than Thursday, October 8, 2026).
MCDB will review applications in October/November and will plan to hold in-person interviews in mid-December/early January.
MCDB is also participating in the Michigan Program for Advancing Cultural Transformation (M-PACT) Program. This hiring program, a federally funded, university-wide faculty initiative, aims to recruit faculty with a demonstrated and ongoing record of driving transformative research, life-changing teaching, and accessible clinical care that will support the health of all, including communities who have been underserved.
