Summary:
Weld Re-8 School District and Fort Lupton High School are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Wrestling Coach to support the Fort Lupton High School Boys' and Girls' Wrestling Programs.
The Assistant Coach will work under the direction of the Head Wrestling Coach/Wrestling Program Manager to provide high-quality instruction, supervision, and mentorship to student-athletes. The ideal candidate will have wrestling experience, strong knowledge of wrestling fundamentals and techniques, and a commitment to helping student-athletes develop athletically, academically, and personally.
The Assistant Coach will support the overall vision and expectations of the Fort Lupton Wrestling Program while helping build a positive, competitive, and inclusive culture for both boys' and girls' wrestling. The position will also assist in creating continuity between Fort Lupton High School, the feeder middle school program, and community youth wrestling programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coaching and Athlete Development:
- Assist the Head Coach in planning and conducting practices, conditioning sessions, competitions, and other team activities.
- Teach and reinforce wrestling fundamentals, techniques, positioning, strategies, and match preparation.
- Provide individual and small-group instruction based on student-athlete skill level, experience, weight class, and developmental needs.
- Assist with the development of both beginning and advanced wrestlers.
- Provide appropriate coaching and technical instruction to both boys' and girls' wrestlers.
- Help athletes establish individual goals and provide constructive feedback regarding their progress.
- Support strength, conditioning, flexibility, nutrition, and appropriate weight-management practices consistent with CHSAA and district expectations.
- Assist the Head Coach with match preparation, scouting, lineup decisions, and competition strategy as assigned.
- Promote athlete development both on and off the mat, including academic achievement, leadership, responsibility, and personal growth.
Program Support:
- Support the Head Wrestling Coach/Wrestling Program Manager in implementing the overall philosophy, expectations, systems, and goals of the Fort Lupton Wrestling Program.
- Assist with supervision of student-athletes during practices, dual meets, tournaments, travel, team activities, and other program events. Including weekend tournaments.
- Assist with the organization and operation of home wrestling meets and tournaments.
- Help maintain wrestling equipment, uniforms, mats, practice facilities, and other program resources.
- Assist with setup, cleaning, sanitation, and proper storage of wrestling mats and equipment.
- Support fundraising, camps, tournaments, youth wrestling activities, and other approved program initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with other members of the wrestling coaching staff.
- Support efforts to strengthen alignment between Fort Lupton High School Wrestling, Fort Lupton Middle School Wrestling, and local youth/community wrestling programs.
- Perform additional wrestling-related duties assigned by the Head Coach or Athletic Director.
Student Athlete Support:
- Promote high expectations for student-athlete attendance, academics, eligibility, behavior, and sportsmanship.
- Assist the Head Coach and Athletic Department in monitoring athlete attendance and academic eligibility.
- Reinforce team rules, school expectations, district policies, and athletic department standards.
- Serve as a positive mentor and role model for student-athletes.
- Help establish a team culture built around accountability, integrity, perseverance, teamwork, commitment, and school pride.
- Encourage student-athletes to represent Fort Lupton High School positively in the classroom, school, community, and competition.
- Address concerns and conflicts appropriately while communicating significant issues to the Head Coach.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure proper supervision of student-athletes during all assigned practices, competitions, travel, and team activities.
- Follow all Weld Re-8 School District, Fort Lupton High School, Athletic Department, CHSAA, and NFHS rules and regulations.
- Assist with implementation of CHSAA wrestling weight-management and weight-certification requirements.
- Promote safe wrestling techniques and appropriate training practices.
- Follow established concussion, injury, emergency, and return-to-play protocols.
- Immediately report injuries, safety concerns, inappropriate conduct, or other significant incidents to the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director.
- Maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and supportive environment for all student-athletes regardless of gender, experience level, or athletic ability
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Previous wrestling experience as a coach and/or competitive wrestler is preferred.
- Previous experience coaching high school or middle school wrestling is preferred.
- Experience working with both boys' and girls' wrestlers is preferred.
- Knowledge of current wrestling techniques, rules, training methods, and competitive strategies.
- Must meet all Weld Re-8 School District and CHSAA coaching requirements.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain required certification.
- Ability to successfully complete all required background checks, training, and district employment requirements
- Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of wrestling techniques, training methods, and competitive strategies.
- Ability to effectively communicate and motivate athletes.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for both boys' and girls' athletes.
- Ability to manage conflict and provide constructive feedback.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong knowledge of wrestling techniques, training methods, and competitive strategies.
Additional Information:
- The Assistant Wrestling Coach must be available for after-school practices, evening dual meets, weekend tournaments, postseason competitions, and other assigned wrestling activities.
- The position may require travel and occasional overnight stays for tournaments and postseason competitions.
- The Assistant Coach is expected to participate in required coaching meetings, professional development, and Athletic Department meetings as requested.
- Offseason involvement, including approved camps, open mats, strength and conditioning activities, and youth/middle school development opportunities, is strongly encouraged.
- The Assistant Coach will work collaboratively with the Head Wrestling Coach/Wrestling Program Manager and other assistant coaches to provide appropriate supervision and instruction for both the boys' and girls' programs.
- The Assistant Coach is expected to promote and model the standards, traditions, expectations, and values of Fort Lupton High School and Weld Re-8 School District at all times.
