Job description

At eero, our mission is to serve as the central nervous system of the home. While we began by revolutionizing home WiFi, we aim to create comprehensive solutions that serve both wireless and wired connectivity needs for customers and businesses across the globe.
eero is seeking a Principal Commodity Manager to own commodity strategy for a portfolio of Electrical Engineering (EE) components supporting the eero product line - including WiFi mesh systems, routers, and related connected home devices.
This is a senior role within a larger commodity management organization. You will bring deep expertise in EE commodity markets, strong commercial acumen, and the ability to influence across engineering, supply chain, finance, and executive leadership - defining and executing sourcing strategies that directly affect eero's product cost structure, supply resilience, and speed to market.
Key job responsibilities
- Own the sourcing strategy for an assigned portfolio of EE commodities supporting eero products which will span areas such as semiconductors, passive components, interconnects, PCBs, or other electrical categories.
- Develop and execute multi-year sourcing strategies that deliver year-over-year cost reductions, supply assurance, and technology alignment with eero's product roadmap.
- Lead should-cost modeling and teardown analysis to build detailed bottom-up cost models, challenge supplier pricing, and identify structural cost reduction opportunities across the assigned bill of materials.
- Negotiate complex commercial agreements spanning hardware component supply, associated firmware/software licensing, IP licensing, SDK access, and development tool agreements with semiconductor and technology vendors.
- Analyze supplier cost structures and competitive landscapes using data-driven methodologies to benchmark pricing, identify leverage points, and build negotiation strategies grounded in total cost of ownership (TCO).
- Track EE commodity markets, technology roadmaps, and supply/demand dynamics - translating market intelligence into proactive sourcing decisions and risk mitigation plans.
- Develop and execute risk buy strategies, building business cases and obtaining executive approval for strategic inventory positions where lead times or market conditions warrant.
- Partner with Hardware Engineering on component and supplier selection for new programs, alternative source qualification, and design-for-cost initiatives starting at the architecture phase.
- Drive NPI sourcing execution - collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and operations to transition new products from EVT/DVT/PVT through mass production ramp.
- Manage end-of-life (EOL) and ramp-down planning, coordinating last-time buys and inventory drawdown to minimize excess and obsolescence exposure.
- Support engineering change management - tracking ECOs, qualifying changes with suppliers, and managing associated NRE investments.
- Influence cross-functional priorities across supply chain, finance, engineering, and product management - operating as the commercial authority for assigned EE commodities.
- Collaborate with peer commodity managers on the broader team to align sourcing strategies, share supplier intelligence, and drive consistency in commercial terms and negotiation approaches.
- Mentor and develop junior commodity managers and sourcing professionals on the team.
