Hanson Professional Services Inc. is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 to join our Industry Market team. This position offers an opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers on industrial facility, manufacturing, terminal, material handling, logistics, and infrastructure projects for clients across North America. The internship provides hands-on exposure to real-world engineering challenges while supporting project teams through planning, design, analysis, and construction-related activities.

Position Overview
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern, you will work under the guidance of licensed engineers and technical professionals to support a variety of industrial and manufacturing projects. Assignments may include engineering calculations, equipment layouts, mechanical system design, field investigations, data collection, construction support, and preparation of engineering reports and drawings.
This internship is designed to provide meaningful project experience while helping students develop technical, analytical, and professional skills in a consulting engineering environment.
Responsibilities
  • Assist engineers with planning, design, and analysis activities for industrial and manufacturing facilities.
  • Support the development of mechanical designs, equipment layouts, piping systems, bulk material handling systems, and facility infrastructure improvements.
  • Perform engineering calculations, technical research, and data analysis.
  • Assist in preparing engineering reports, specifications, cost estimates, and technical documentation.
  • Utilize engineering software and computer-aided design (CAD) tools to support project development.
  • Participate in field visits to industrial facilities, terminals, manufacturing plants, rail-served sites, or construction projects.
  • Assist with site assessments, investigations, and data collection efforts.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, structural, electrical, process, and environmental engineers.
  • Support project managers with project coordination, document management, and quality control reviews.
  • Follow Hanson quality, safety, and professional standards throughout all project activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Expected graduation date between December 2027 and May 2028.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior internship, co-op, project, laboratory, or research experience related to engineering.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or other engineering design software.
  • Interest in industrial facilities, manufacturing operations, material handling systems, logistics, process equipment, energy, or heavy industry projects.
  • Coursework related to thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, machine design, or manufacturing processes.
  • Willingness to participate in occasional fieldwork and site visits, including overnight trips.
