The Opportunity:

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join our growing team in Jacksonville, FL; Columbus, OH; Cleveland, OH or Akron, OH.


In this role, you will lead the analysis, design, and delivery of structural systems for a diverse portfolio of projects across multiple market sectors. Working collaboratively with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients, you will provide technical leadership throughout all phases of project development—from planning and design through construction administration.


As a Sr. Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for the design of new building structures as well as renovations, additions, and structural modifications to existing facilities. This position offers the opportunity to lead complex projects, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the continued growth of PRIME AE’s structural engineering practice.


Project types include Military/Department of Defense facilities and bases, Federal, Justice, K-12, Higher Education, Corporate Commercial, Hospitality, Wastewater Treatment Plants, Cultural & Historic, and Residential projects.


What You’ll Do:

As a Sr. Structural Engineer, you will provide technical leadership on structural engineering projects while overseeing design development, project coordination, quality control, and construction administration activities. You will serve as a key resource for project teams, ensuring the successful delivery of innovative and practical structural solutions that meet client goals, project requirements, and applicable codes and standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead structural analysis and design efforts for new construction, renovations, additions, and facility assessments.
  • Design, analyze, and specify structural systems including steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, timber, and other structural materials.
  • Prepare and oversee engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Coordinate structural designs with architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, and other project disciplines.
  • Perform structural evaluations, condition assessments, and investigations of existing structures.
  • Provide construction administration services, including review of submittals, responses to RFIs, and resolution of field-related issues.
  • Serve as a technical lead on projects, providing guidance and support to project teams throughout the design and construction process.
  • Participate in project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource coordination activities.
  • Review designs, calculations, and project documents prepared by others as part of PRIME AE’s quality assurance and quality control process.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical staff, fostering technical growth and professional development.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution and client satisfaction.
  • Participate in site visits, field investigations, and occasional project-related travel as required.


What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or Architectural Engineering required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of structural engineering and design experience within a consulting engineering environment.
  • Experience leading structural design projects involving steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and timber systems.
  • Working knowledge of structural analysis and design software including Revit, RISA, Enercalc, RAM, or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting federal, public sector, education, wastewater, industrial, restoration, or similar facility projects preferred.
  • Strong understanding of structural engineering principles, building systems, construction materials, and construction means and methods.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable local, state, and national building codes and design standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage and deliver projects with minimal supervision.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to travel for occasional scheduled site visits and project meetings.
