How much do structural analysis jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 20, 2026, the average hourly pay for structural analysis in Indiana is $61.98, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $52.16 and $72.50 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How much do structural analysts make?

Structural analysts typically earn a median annual salary of around $70,000 to $90,000, depending on experience, education, and location. Entry-level positions may start lower, while experienced analysts with specialized skills or certifications can earn over $100,000 annually.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Structural Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Structural Analyst, you need a strong background in civil or structural engineering, proficiency with analysis methods, and often a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with industry-standard software such as SAP2000, ETABS, ANSYS, or AutoCAD, as well as understanding building codes and standards, is typically required. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for interpreting complex data and collaborating with project teams. These skills ensure safe and efficient structural designs, compliance with regulations, and successful project outcomes.

What is structural analysis?

Structural analysis is the process of evaluating and predicting the strength, stability, and rigidity of structures such as buildings, bridges, and other frameworks. It involves calculating the effects of loads, stresses, and forces to ensure that the structure can safely withstand expected conditions. Structural analysis is a key aspect of civil and structural engineering, helping to prevent failures and ensure public safety.

What does a structural analyst do?

A structural analyst evaluates and analyzes the strength, stability, and safety of structures such as buildings, bridges, and other infrastructure. They use engineering principles, computer-aided design (CAD) software, and structural analysis tools to ensure designs meet safety standards and codes. The role often requires knowledge of materials, load calculations, and sometimes certifications in structural engineering.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior engineers in specialized fields such as petroleum, aerospace, or software engineering can earn $500,000 or more annually, especially with experience, advanced skills, and in high-demand industries. Executive-level engineering roles or those with significant managerial responsibilities may also reach this compensation level.

What is the difference between Structural Analysis vs Structural Design?

AspectStructural AnalysisStructural Design
Primary FocusCalculating forces, stresses, and stability of structuresCreating detailed plans and specifications for structures
Required SkillsMathematical modeling, engineering principlesDesign software, creativity, code compliance
Work EnvironmentAnalysis labs, office settings, project sitesDesign offices, project planning environments
CertificationsPE license, engineering degreesPE license, engineering degrees

Structural Analysis and Structural Design are closely related engineering roles. Structural Analysis focuses on evaluating the forces and stresses within a structure, ensuring safety and stability. Structural Design involves creating the actual plans and specifications for construction based on analysis results. Both roles require similar credentials and often work together throughout a project lifecycle.

What are some typical challenges faced by professionals in structural analysis roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in structural analysis often encounter challenges such as managing complex calculations, interpreting ambiguous design requirements, and ensuring compliance with evolving building codes. These challenges can be addressed by leveraging advanced analysis software, staying up to date with industry standards, and collaborating closely with architects and other engineers to clarify project goals. Regular communication and continuous professional development help structural analysts produce safe, efficient, and cost-effective designs while minimizing errors.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior structural engineers with extensive experience, advanced certifications, and specialized skills in areas like seismic design or large-scale infrastructure can earn $300,000 or more annually. High-level roles often involve leadership responsibilities, consulting, or working in high-cost-of-living regions, and may require advanced degrees and professional licensure.
