Job description

Overview
As a Stream Design Engineer in our Ecological Practice for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC) in the Knoxville, TN office, you'll support the planning and design of stream and wetland restoration projects using natural stream design principles and techniques. You'll prepare construction drawings and specifications, coordinate Section 404/401 permitting, and support projects through design and construction, including field data collection and construction oversight to ensure compliance with design, regulatory, and project criteria.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design stream and wetland restoration projects using natural channel design principles and techniques.
  • Prepare stream and wetland construction drawings and specifications using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Coordinate and support Section 404/401 regulatory permitting efforts.
  • Perform field data collection to support design parameters and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide construction oversight to ensure projects are implemented in accordance with approved designs and criteria.
  • Collaborate with project teams and interact with clients, supporting technical coordination, field work, and technical documentation.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering field
  • Experience in natural channel design and wetland restoration design
  • Knowledge of Section 401 and 404 Clean Water Act regulations and permitting from state and federal regulatory agencies
  • Experience in stream and wetland mitigation projects
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and ArcGIS preferred
  • Familiarity with Rosgen Levels 1-4 methodology preferred
  • Experience using TN Stream Quantification Tool (SQT) assessments preferred
  • Experience in construction oversight or third-party construction inspection
