Job description

Business Development Manager
Deacon Construction · Seattle, WA · Full-Time
Deacon Construction is seeking a motivated, relationship-driven Business Development Manager to join our Seattle team. This is a strategic growth role for someone who knows how to open doors, build lasting client relationships, and position Deacon to win meaningful work across the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
WHO WE ARE
At Deacon, we believe that great projects are built by great people, and great people deserve a place where they are genuinely valued. Our focus is simple: put our people first, build excellent projects, and maintain the long-standing client relationships that have defined our reputation for over 45 years.
We work hard, take pride in what we build, and hold ourselves to a high standard. We also know that the best teams are ones that enjoy showing up every day — and that means taking time to connect, celebrate, and support one another, whether you are in the office or out in the field.
Over two-thirds of our work is repeat business. That says everything about how we treat our clients and the relationships we build. As we continue to grow across the West Coast and Mountain West, we are committed to maintaining the heart of who Deacon is — people who care about their work, their teams, and each other.
WHY JOIN DEACON?
  • People-first culture with mentorship, training, and real opportunities for advancement.
  • A strong and established presence in the Pacific Northwest with a diverse and growing portfolio across multiple market sectors.
  • Stability and growth — privately held, financially strong, and expanding for over 45 years.
  • Competitive compensation package including base salary, performance-based incentives, and expense coverage.
  • A collaborative team environment where Business Development works hand in hand with Operations, Preconstruction, and Marketing.
  • Community involvement through our Deacon Charitable Foundation and Community Engagement Committee.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As Business Development Manager for our Seattle office, you will be a key driver of growth across the Pacific Northwest market. You will build and deepen relationships with owners, developers, brokers, architects, and other key stakeholders to create opportunities for Deacon across our full range of market sectors — Multifamily and Mixed Use, Healthcare, Hospitality, Retail and Restaurant, Education, Office and Industrial, Senior Living, and Repair and Restoration. This is not just a lead-generation role — it is a deal-making role that requires a strong understanding of the consultative sales process, solid construction knowledge, and the ability to work closely with our executive leadership and five West Coast offices to develop and execute our sales strategy for new and existing clients.
This role is a mix of in-office collaboration, client visits, industry events, and conferences. We value presence and flexibility — we want our people in the office when available, but we understand that building relationships in this business means getting out and meeting people where they are.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Identify, develop, and maintain relationships with prospective and existing clients across the Pacific Northwest, including owners, developers, brokers, and design teams.
  • Drive new business opportunities aligned with Deacon's target market sectors and strategic growth goals.
  • Prepare action plans to identify specific target accounts and their key contacts.
  • Lead and support pursuit strategy, including RFQ/RFP responses, interview preparation, and presentation development in collaboration with our Preconstruction, Operations, and Marketing teams.
  • Stay engaged with clients throughout all stages of project development, construction, and closeout to ensure Deacon delivers on its commitments.
  • Represent Deacon at industry events, trade associations, and community organizations to build brand presence and expand our network.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of the Pacific Northwest construction market, including competitor activity, development pipelines, and emerging opportunities.
  • Track and manage business development activity and pipeline using Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Provide regular feedback to leadership on market activity, client sentiment, and project progress from the client's perspective.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5 or more years of business development or client relations experience in the commercial construction industry.
  • Demonstrated experience across one or more of Deacon's core market sectors: Multifamily and Mixed Use, Healthcare, Hospitality, Retail and Restaurant, Education, Office and Industrial, Senior Living, or Repair and Restoration.
  • Strong understanding of the commercial construction process, delivery methods, and the consultative sales process.
  • Established relationships within the Pacific Northwest development, ownership, brokerage, and design community preferred.
  • Excellent communicator and relationship builder — confident presenting to ownership groups and executives, and collaborative enough to thrive in a team-driven culture.
  • Self-motivated and results-oriented with the ability to manage multiple pursuits and priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Dynamics or similar CRM platforms.
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.
