Job Summary
WorkCare is seeking an experienced Associate Medical Director - Occupational Health Physician to support an on-site construction clinic in New York.
This on-site leadership role partners directly with the WorkCare Medical Director to deliver clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, and workforce health strategy within a large-scale construction site and future complex manufacturing environment.
The On-site Associate Medical Director provides direct clinical care while supporting medical oversight of advanced practice providers, nursing staff, and ancillary clinical personnel. This position plays a critical role in protecting workforce health, supporting operational continuity, and aligning site-level occupational health services to the Client's rigorous global standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Case Management
  • Provide on-site urgent, episodic, and occupational medical care.
  • Evaluate and manage work-related injuries and illnesses.
  • Conduct fitness-for-duty and medical clearance evaluations.
  • Lead return-to-work planning in collaboration with site leadership, HR, and safety teams.
  • Review and interpret medical surveillance testing.

Medical Leadership & Oversight
  • Support the Medical Director in clinical governance and quality assurance.
  • Provide delegated clinical oversight for advanced practice providers and nursing staff.
  • Promote adherence to corporate occupational health standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of occupational health policies and SOPs.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Mitigation
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable federal, state, and industry-specific regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential employee health records.
  • Support workers' compensation case coordination and documentation.
  • Serve as Medical Review Officer (MRO) for drug testing programs (if necessary).

Emergency Preparedness & Business Continuity
  • Participate in disaster planning, drills, and emergency response coordination.
  • Support on-site Emergency Response Teams (ERT).
  • Provide clinical leadership during critical incidents.
  • Contribute to business continuity planning aligned with global standards.

Workplace Health Strategy
  • Conduct workplace walkthroughs in construction and manufacturing environments.
  • Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and industrial hygiene teams.
  • Assist in hazard mitigation strategy and exposure surveillance programs.
  • Support health promotion and wellness initiatives to various workforce types.

Innovation & Reporting
  • Assist in integrating digital health tools, telehealth, and data analytics.
  • Contribute to reporting metrics and program performance dashboards.
  • Support global program audits and continuous improvement initiatives.

Perform additional duties and assume additional responsibilities as identified by manager for the efficient operation of WorkCare.
Education/Licenses
  • MD or DO from an accredited U.S. institution required.
  • Active, unrestricted New York medical license required.
  • DEA registration required.
  • State-controlled substance certification if indicated.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of occupational and/or acute care clinical experience required.
  • Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred) required.
  • Medical malpractice insurability.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Board Certification in Occupational and Environmental Medicine (American Board of Preventive Medicine) or board eligibility.
  • Prior leadership or associate/deputy medical director experience.
  • Experience in semiconductor manufacturing, advanced manufacturing, or large construction projects.
  • Current MRO certification.
  • Active membership in ACOEM.
  • Experience collaborating with EHS, industrial hygiene, and corporate leadership teams.

  • Requires sitting while working at a desk.
  • Ability to work under stressful, sometimes unpredictable situations.
  • Manual dexterity required for use of handling medical equipment, performing medical procedures, using computer keyboard and mouse.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to kneel and perform chest compressions for CPR life saving measures.
  • May drive emergency vehicle within the site when responding to an incident, if applicable.
Work Environment
  • On-site presence required at on-site construction and manufacturing campus.
  • Combination of clinic-based care and active plant/construction walkthroughs.
  • Mainly indoor, office environment conditions.
  • The noise level is usually moderate.
  • Air quality is good and temperature is controlled.

This position has an annual salary range of $280,000 - $325,000. Final compensation offered will be determined by factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and qualifications.
