Manager, Strategic Planning & OperationsWhat you will do

At Amgen, our mission to serve patients drives everything we do. Within Global Engineering, the Strategic Planning & Operations (SPO) team sits at the center of shaping and delivering on that mission-enabling a ~$2.5B global capital portfolio, advancing sustainability commitments, environmental health safety, and delivering world class facilities and lab services to drive operational excellence across the enterprise.

In this vital role you will be a member of the Engineering Strategic Planning and Operations (SPO) team. The SPO team serves as an internal strategy and transformation engine for Engineering. We are a selection of business, advisory, and compliance experts who elevate Engineering's impact and performance by acting as trusted advisors to senior leadership driving alignment, leadership, and trusted business outcomes in a variety of areas.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Strategy: develop and implement strategy, transformation, innovation, operational excellence and continuous improvement efforts across all aspects of Engineering; including technologies, processes, and people
  • Analysis: leverage data and a consistent process to assess needs, develop options, make recommendations on next steps, and flex to implement when appropriate. Including preparing and delivering executive level presentations that drive decision making at the highest levels of Engineering and Operations
  • Act as the central hub for cross-functional communication and planning efforts to ensure connection and integration across all of Engineering (and beyond)
  • Partner with senior leadership on the development, articulation and execution strategies, goals, and objectives
  • Partner with senior leaders to solve complex, high-impact business challenges
  • Lead engineering transformation workstreams that improve performance, scalability and resilience
  • Lead and deliver cross-functional initiatives aligned to Engineering priorities

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree OR
  • Master's degreeand 3 years of business analysis, strategy, project management experience OR
  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of business analysis, strategy, project management experience OR
  • Associate's degree and 10 years ofbusiness analysis, strategy, project management experience OR
  • High school diploma / GED and 12 years ofbusiness analysis, strategy, project management experience

In addition to meeting at least one of the above requirements, you must have experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation or resources. Your managerial experience may run concurrently with the required technical experience referenced above

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in Biotech within Operations
  • In-depth knowledge of Biotech industry trends and the competitive landscape
  • Strong business and financial acumen, including facilities and capital project environments
  • Versatile and agile leader who can flex across various subject areas across the team and balance multiple responsibilities, priorities, tasks, and projects simultaneously
  • Experienced leader with track record of developing successful teams and relationship building across functions
  • Strong executive presence, technical, and business acumen to drive strategy, decision making, and implementation
  • Comfortable owning and resolving complex challenges, independent problem solving, and raising as appropriate to senior leaders
  • Ability to effectively communicate with varied stakeholders and all levels of the organization
  • Understanding of Capital Projects, Facilities & Engineering Services, and EH&S
  • Demonstrated understanding/experience of Continuous Improvement methodologies and tools: Lean, Six Sigma etc.
  • Strong experience in project management, analysis, and data visualization using tools such as Smartsheet, Tableau, and PowerBI
  • Experience in management consulting (e.g., Big 4, MBB) or internal strategy/operations roles
  • Experience within biotech, pharmaceuticals, or engineering-intensive industries

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
