What is strategic analytics?

Strategic analytics is the practice of using data analysis and advanced analytics techniques to inform and support an organization’s long-term decision-making and strategy. Professionals in strategic analytics analyze data trends, market dynamics, and operational metrics to help guide business growth, improve efficiency, and gain a competitive edge. This role typically requires a blend of analytical skills, business acumen, and the ability to communicate insights to leadership teams.

How does a strategic analytics professional typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business decisions?

Strategic Analytics professionals often work closely with departments such as marketing, finance, operations, and product management to gather relevant data and provide actionable insights. They facilitate data-driven decision-making by translating complex analyses into clear recommendations tailored to each team’s goals. Regular meetings, presentations, and collaborative workshops are common, ensuring alignment between analytics initiatives and organizational strategy. Effective communication and a strong understanding of business objectives are essential for successful cross-functional collaboration.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a strategic analytics professional, and why are they important?

To thrive in Strategic Analytics, you need strong quantitative analysis, data interpretation, and business acumen, often supported by a degree in analytics, statistics, or a related field. Proficiency with tools such as SQL, Python, R, and business intelligence platforms like Tableau or Power BI is typically required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills help you translate complex data into actionable insights. These skills enable strategic decision-making and drive business growth through evidence-based recommendations.

Job description

Role Summary

SolarWinds is seeking a Staff Marketing Analytics professional to serve as a strategic partner to our Go-to-Market (GTM) organization. This is not a traditional reporting role-we are looking for someone who can leverage data to influence strategy, challenge assumptions, and help senior leaders make smarter business decisions.

This highly visible position partners closely with Marketing, Sales, Product, Revenue Operations, and Executive Leadership to uncover insights that drive pipeline growth, optimize GTM investments, and improve business performance. The ideal candidate combines strong analytical expertise with exceptional business acumen, executive presence, and intellectual curiosity.

Success in this role requires someone who naturally builds trusted relationships, asks thoughtful questions, proactively identifies opportunities, and translates complex data into compelling business recommendations.

Location: Austin, TX (3 days/week in office)
Relocation assistance is not available.

What We're Looking For
  • Has exceptional business acumen and understands how marketing performance impacts revenue and company growth.
  • Demonstrates executive presence and confidently communicates with senior leaders and cross-functional executives.
  • Is intellectually curious and constantly seeks to understand the "why" behind business performance rather than simply reporting metrics.
  • Builds strong partnerships across Marketing, Sales, Product, Finance, and Revenue Operations.
  • Operates as a proactive, self-starting consultant who identifies opportunities before being asked.
  • Synthesizes complex analyses into clear, concise, executive-ready recommendations.
  • Influences decisions through data, business context, and thoughtful storytelling.
  • Thrives in ambiguous environments and is comfortable challenging assumptions with facts.

The preferred candidate is:

  • A strategic thinker who connects analytics to business outcomes.
  • A trusted advisor who influences through insight rather than authority.
  • Naturally curious and continuously asking better business questions.
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and creating clarity.
  • Relationship-oriented and highly collaborative across functions.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and self-motivated.
  • Equally comfortable discussing data with analysts and strategy with executives.
Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a trusted GTM analytics partner to Marketing and executive leadership, providing strategic insights that influence business decisions.
  • Evaluate weekly, monthly, and quarterly business performance against pipeline, revenue, and marketing objectives, identifying trends, risks, and growth opportunities.
  • Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to solve complex business problems using data and analytical frameworks.
  • Translate business questions into scalable analytics solutions by collaborating with Analytics Engineering and Data teams.
  • Analyze customer behavior, campaign performance, pipeline health, and conversion across the end-to-end GTM funnel using data from platforms such as Adobe Analytics, Marketo, Salesforce, Tableau, and related marketing technologies.
  • Drive optimization initiatives through experimentation, A/B testing, conversion analysis, attribution, and performance measurement.
  • Deliver executive-ready presentations that simplify complex analytical findings into actionable recommendations and business outcomes.
  • Challenge conventional thinking by uncovering new opportunities through exploratory analysis and hypothesis-driven problem solving.
  • Build trusted relationships across the organization while influencing stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve measurement, reporting, operational efficiency, and overall GTM effectiveness.
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in Marketing Analytics, GTM Analytics, Revenue Analytics, Business Analytics, or a related strategic analytics function.
  • Proven experience partnering directly with senior leaders and influencing cross-functional business decisions.
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to connect analytical insights to revenue growth, pipeline performance, and strategic business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated executive presence with excellent communication, presentation, and storytelling skills.
  • Exceptional intellectual curiosity with a passion for understanding business problems, identifying opportunities, and continuously improving outcomes.
  • Experience translating complex analytical findings into practical recommendations that drive action.
  • Strong understanding of modern GTM analytics, including:
    • Marketing performance measurement
    • Attribution and ROI analysis
    • Funnel and conversion analytics
    • Customer lifecycle analysis
    • Pipeline and revenue reporting
    • Data integration across marketing technologies
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience with Tableau, Power BI, or similar visualization platforms.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience with Adobe Analytics, Google Analytics, or comparable web analytics tools.
  • Strong analytical skills using SQL (preferred)
  • Excellent attention to detail with strong documentation, validation, and quality assurance practices.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment while independently driving initiatives from concept through execution.
