Position summary: The Store Manager is a position of responsibility for establishing and maintaining customer relationships, oversees and is accountable for the operations of a store. Ensuring maximum sales and profitability through merchandise, inventory, expense control, human resource management, and managing operating costs and shrinkage. The Store Manager demonstrates a commitment to personal development and exceed company goals.


General Purpose: The purpose of this position is to provide leadership in all store's operational areas by guiding and motivating employees to provide safe, fast, and superior service to exceed customer expectations, stimulate the growth of the business. This position, along with all positions, are to uphold the Family Express Mission and Vision.


Role Qualifications:

  • Must be able to be on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Must have at least a High School diploma or equivalent
  • Reliable transportation
  • Must be able to travel daily between all Family Express locations or other non-Family Express locations when necessary.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain and Indiana alcohol manager designation
  • Completion of training requirements (ie. ServSafe, Cravin's To Order, etc)

Position Responsibilities:

  • Meets and exceeds expectations of the Family Express culture including building relationships, promoting the Living Brand, and serves as a product brand advocate as outlined in the Culture Audit expectations
  • Complete all daily, weekly, monthly accounting, banking, and auditing functions using Company approved accounting procedures
  • Conduct and ensure competitive fuel price surveys are completed as required
  • Accurately review, verify, and complete store payroll ensuring proper allocations, vacations, etc. added per schedule.
  • Effectively operates and maintains all approved store equipment
  • Execute the overall marketing, merchandising, and promotional objectives
  • Apply, enforce, and oversee the consistent use of early engagement, counseling, and disciplinary actions for all store associates according to Company policy and procedure
  • Ensure proper safety, maintenance, cleanliness, and image standards are maintained for the entire store through store image reviews, safety audits, and proper use of the daily and weekly shift duties lists by all associates
  • Monitor applicant tracking system daily and respond to all applications in a timely manner
  • Hire and retain qualified store associates to achieve a positive programmatic hiring number in each cost center of individual store and Company
  • Leads, motivates, inspires, trains, and coaches all employees
  • Ensures store security and safety for all customers and employees; promptly reports any incident
  • Ensure the store achieves the budgeted objectives and maintains a level of profitability acceptable to the Company, in the areas of sales, shrink, waste, cash over/short, expenses and labor management
  • Complete store schedules two months in advance (at minimum), ensuring all shifts are covered to meet business needs
  • Verifies and reviews proper labor budget utilization
  • Completes all scheduled performance reviews
  • Maintain active Cravin's To Order training and ServSafe certifications at food service locations
  • May include safety committee assignments
  • Maintain a working phone at all times
  • Ensures appropriate store coverage for vacations by Associate Field Consultant or Store Manager, and ensures all shifts are filled
  • Completion of Living Brand University courses
  • Other duties as assigned

Reporting To This Position: All Store level employees assigned to location (locations for Multi-site Manager) of responsibility.

Physical demands and work environment:

  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand for prolonged periods longer than eight (8) ten to (10) hour shifts, fifty (50) hours per week, reach, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch; talk and hear; taste and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Work Environment: Must have flexibility to work all shifts, all days of the week, when necessary. Ability to tolerate extreme temperatures for minimum of 30-minute intervals. Exposure to cleaning solvents.
