The Counter Sales Level 3 provides friendly and courteous over-the-counter direct sales to customers, takes orders in-person and by phone, and supports the overall performance of the Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts store operations. This is driven by an energetic focus and promotion of sales programs as well as customer and team-oriented activities. Incentives may be available for their Sales activities, which can cover aftermarket automotive replacement parts, and may include the sale of heavy-duty parts, auto and industrial paint, and body shop supplies and equipment. Will serve as mentor and provide direction to new and/or junior Counter Salesperson and/or Delivery Driver. Utilizes reasoning abilities to assist with complex requests from customers. May complete end-or-day or end-or-month reporting, as assigned. May be a Leader in Training while serving in a temporary supervisory capacity, as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilitiesinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Demonstrate courteous, respectful, and kind conduct toward every employee and customer.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of RPI store systems and processes.
  • Displays an advanced understanding of auto parts and is a go-to source of information for customers and coworkers alike.
  • Trains other employees on parts knowledge and store processes.
  • May assist manager in completing End-of-Day processing.
  • May assist manager in completing end-of-month processing.
  • Cooperate and coordinate well with coworkers and as a team member.
  • Perform job duties in compliance with legal, regulatory, and Company safety guidelines, practices, and policies.
  • Maintain neat, clean, and professional appearance.
  • Provide exceptional customer service including assisting in determining parts needed, offering options to solve customer problems, and diffusing situations involving an upset or dissatisfied customer. Appropriately escalates issue if needed.
  • Have a thorough understanding of pricing structure and customer discount availability. Advises junior level Counter Sales as needed.
  • Research part's availability through computer and catalogs for stock numbers, inventory status, and pricing.
  • Locate and pull parts for orders, check in, put up, straighten, dust, and rearrange stock as needed.
  • Handle cash and credit transactions; properly invoice/credit customer accounts. Assists junior employees with process and trains on correct handling as needed. Reports concerns and identifies improper transactions to appropriate manager immediately.
  • Completes required training to stay current in industry knowledge to better serve customers.
  • Prioritize the order of delivery items and assign deliveries to drivers. Follows up on critical delivery items to ensure customer expectations are met.
  • Correctly handle new and defective core returns from customers, insure proper customer credit and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Open and/or close store as scheduled.
  • Work home store inventory/assist in other location's inventory, if assigned.
  • Clean (pick-up trash, sweep, mop, etc.) and maintain inside and outside of building area.
  • Potential supervisory duties in the absence of the store manager.
  • Assist other workers within the store and direct their tasks when needed.
  • Perform any other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent experience or motivation to pursue a GED. Previous professional automotive parts counter sales experience and ability to reconcile/balance accounting figures. Prior leadership experience, or independent decision making abilities preferred.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
