Job Description
We have an opening for a Procurement Engineering & Inventory Manager to manage supply chain activities for the Superblock, a Hazard Class 2 and 3 nuclear facility. The position will lead a team of Technical Supply Chain Engineers, Nuclear Procurement Engineers, Technical Coordinators, and Inventory Specialists. You will develop and maintain processes for engineering procurement, supplier coordination, material control, storage management, and controlled-inventory tracking. You will support a Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system, coordinate project requirements, evaluate acquisition strategies, and help ensure the procurement, storage, and disposition of components, parts, equipment, tooling, and services meet technical, quality, safety, schedule, and cost requirements. You will communicate concepts, designs, and methods to suppliers and support the incorporation of supplier-developed approaches into final products and testing. You will also support the evaluation and procurement of services for the design, maintenance, and construction of systems and structures important to nuclear safety. In addition, you will support storage management and controlled-inventory tracking for components and parts used by the Superblock.
This position is within the Defense Technologies Engineering Division (DTED) in the Engineering Directorate.
This position may offer a hybrid schedule, based on team and organizational needs.
You will
  • Provide strategic leadership, mentorship, and technical direction to multidisciplinary teams supporting procurement engineering, storage management, and inventory control. Oversee workforce planning, assign and balance priorities, coordinate resources across multiple projects, and review deliverables to ensure excellence.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of integrated processes and procedures for engineering procurement, supplier coordination, material control, storage management, and controlled-inventory tracking throughout the Superblock.
  • Drive the optimization and utilization of the MRP system to support requirements planning, procurement, inventory status, project execution, and organizational objectives.
  • Collaborate with engineering, program management, project teams, Procurement, Quality Assurance, operations, and suppliers to extract requirements and formulate robust procurement and acquisition strategies.
  • Direct the procurement of specialized hardware, equipment, tooling, components, parts, and services, including those supporting the design, maintenance, and construction of systems and structures critical to nuclear safety.
  • Oversee technical evaluations, procurement specifications, statements of work, supplier submittals, acceptance testing, receipt inspection, Commercial Grade Dedication activities, and quality assurance documentation, ensuring compliance and traceability.
  • Establish and maintain rigorous controls for the receipt, identification, inspection, preservation, storage, movement, issuance, return, reconciliation, and disposition of controlled inventory.
  • Evaluate supplier capabilities, review technical and commercial information, conduct site visits as needed, identify risks, and coordinate corrective actions to uphold safety, quality, and compliance standards.
  • Provide comprehensive status updates, resolve complex issues, and recommend strategic improvements related to safety, quality, compliance, manufacturability, traceability, schedule, cost, and process effectiveness.
  • Establish program-level performance measures, assess process effectiveness, and implement enhancements to strengthen procurement quality, inventory accuracy, material traceability, and mission readiness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, supply chain management, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Extensive experience leading and managing engineering, procurement, supply chain, inventory, or material-management activities in complex technical, industrial, scientific, or nuclear environments.
  • Expertise in supervising, mentoring, and providing technical leadership to multidisciplinary teams, including assigning work, balancing priorities, reviewing deliverables, and supporting performance development.
  • Advanced proficiency in developing, implementing, and continuously improving program-level procurement, supplier management, material control, inventory management, and storage management processes.
  • Proven ability to prepare and review procurement specifications, statements of work, technical evaluations, supplier documentation, acceptance tests, inspection requirements, and quality records.
  • Deep knowledge of material identification, traceability, configuration status, preservation, storage conditions, inventory reconciliation, and controlled-material practices applicable to nuclear or other high-hazard facilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and coordinate work with engineering, project management, Procurement, Quality Assurance, operations, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, problem-solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to present technical and operational information to management and represent the organization in cross-functional initiatives.
  • Ability to establish performance measures, evaluate process effectiveness, and implement improvements across multiple organizations or projects.

Qualifications We Desire
  • Experience at a DOE facility, commercial nuclear power plant, nuclear construction project, or other regulated high-hazard facility.
  • Experience with federal or taxpayer-funded acquisition practices, intellectual property, export control, or related compliance requirements.
  • Experience with mechanical, electrical, optical, high-vacuum, electro-optical, scientific, or nuclear systems.
  • Experience using enterprise resource planning, MRP, warehouse-management, or inventory-control systems.
  • Experience as an NQA-1 lead auditor
  • Experience leading nonconformance investigations related to nuclear safety-class or safety-significant systems.

Pay Range:
$227,430 - $288,396 Annually
This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
