Stipends are typically intended to help cover basic living expenses and may not be equivalent to standard employee compensation. These internships are common in industries like nonprofits, research, media, and startups, where full salaries may not be feasible. Stipend internships provide valuable work experience and networking opportunities, making them popular among students and recent graduates.

Familiarity with productivity tools like Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and basic project management software is often expected. Initiative, adaptability, and effective communication are crucial soft skills that help interns stand out. These skills and qualities enable interns to contribute meaningfully, absorb new information quickly, and adapt to dynamic work environments.
