We are seeking an experienced Stevedoring Supervisor who can lead teams, optimize daily operations, and ensure cargo moves safely and efficiently from vessel to shore.

In this critical role, you will oversee and coordinate stevedoring activities, including the loading and unloading of cargo, while leading frontline teams in a fast-paced terminal environment. You will be responsible for maintaining a strong safety culture, improving operational performance, and ensuring our customers receive exceptional service.

Responsibilities

What your day looks like as a Supervisor:

  • Lead, supervise, and coordinate stevedoring teams during vessel loading and unloading operations to ensure safe, efficient, and productive cargo handling.
  • Oversee daily terminal activities while ensuring compliance with company policies, port requirements, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Develop and execute operational plans to optimize workflow, improve productivity, and support timely vessel turnaround.
  • Collaborate with vessel agents, terminal operations teams, customers, and other stakeholders to coordinate activities, address challenges, and maintain seamless operations.
  • Conduct pre-operation and pre-shift briefings to communicate job assignments, safety expectations, operational priorities, and performance goals.
  • Monitor the safe and effective use of equipment, tools, and machinery while ensuring proper handling, availability, and reporting of maintenance needs.
  • Train, coach, and mentor stevedoring employees to promote operational excellence, teamwork, and adherence to safety and performance standards.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety requirements, including OSHA regulations and company procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and provide solutions to enhance operational efficiency and customer service.

Qualifications

To succeed as a Supervisor you must have:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree or technical training in operations, logistics, transportation, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in cargo handling, stevedoring, terminal operations, maritime operations, or a related industrial environment.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with a strong commitment to safety, accountability, and leading by example.
  • Ability to effectively manage priorities and make sound decisions in a fast-paced, constantly changing operational environment.
  • Knowledge of stevedoring operations, cargo handling procedures, warehouse activities, and the safe operation of related equipment; prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting health and safety initiatives, with knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety practices.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to build teamwork, collaboration, and positive working relationships.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to complete operational documentation and reports.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work varying schedules, including nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours based on vessel schedules and operational needs.
