The part-time STEM Educator actively delivers interactive programs offsite in schools and community organizations, onsite in LSC’s learning environments (including laboratories, galleries, theaters, and public spaces), and virtually. Offsite program delivery requires driving to schools and partner sites throughout the NJ tri-state region.

In addition to program delivery, the part-time STEM Educator helps ensure high-quality setups and maintains safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environments. This role supports LSC’s mission by contributing to public-facing initiatives and supporting the continuous improvement of STEM programming.

The part-time STEM Educator works as business needs demand and reports directly to the Senior Manager of School Programs and indirectly to the Senior Director of School & Public Programs. This role requires the ability to drive to school partner sites.

What You’ll Bring

You love learning and working with students of all ages, and you excel at speaking to audiences ranging from small classrooms to large groups. You are passionate about science education and enjoy engaging learners of all ages and backgrounds. Optimistic, flexible, and energetic, you know how to make science content age-appropriate and relevant while maintaining strong engagement. Curious by nature, you continually seek knowledge across STEM and incorporate current developments into your program delivery. You work well in dynamic environments, adapt easily to changing schedules and settings, take initiative to solve problems, and demonstrate strong classroom management, professionalism, and teamwork.

What You’ll Do

Below is an overview of your essential job functions; please note that this is not an exhaustive list, as new responsibilities may be added as business needs require.

  • Set up and break down programs and complete administrative tasks (such as making confirmation calls, inputting data into monday.com, etc.)

Program Support & Development
  • Support the continuous improvement of STEM programs through research and development assistance

  • Contribute to departmental initiatives that engage school groups, families, and the general public through events and outreach

  • Maintain professionalism, reliability, strong attendance, and adherence to all LSC policies and procedures

  • Perform other duties as assigned based on departmental and business needs

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs)

  • Strong public speaking and audience engagement skills, with the ability to present complex concepts in an accessible and engaging way to diverse learners

  • Strong classroom management and group facilitation skills in dynamic environments

  • Capable and comfortable driving to partner schools and program sites (up to approximately two hours) and safely navigating routes using GPS or map-based directions, with prior driving experience required

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse populations

  • Strong organization, time management, and reliability with the ability to manage multiple responsibilities in fast-paced environments

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Valid driver’s license (required)

  • Must have experience operating a vehicle safely and navigating with passengers; must be able to drive a car 2+ hours with following directions from a map or GPS in all weather conditions

Classification and Schedule

This is a part-time, non-exempt position, eligible for overtime for hours worked over 40 per week with prior supervisor approval. You are typically scheduled for at least 4 days per week with shifts typically ranging from 6–8 hours per day, depending on program needs. Weekly schedules will vary based on programming demand, and may include early mornings, daytime hours, and occasional evenings. Scheduling is subject to change based on departmental and business needs.
