TSH's mission is to collaboratively maintain and develop K-12 teacher and student programs that inspire a passion for STEM learning, research, and discovery. The Science House achieves this through four strategic priorities: 1) Teacher Professional Development centered on equipping teachers to use engaging instructional practices, emerging technologies, guided inquiry, and project-based learning, 2) Student Programs focused on problem-solving, applied learning, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and competition, 3) Rural Satellite Offices that provide teacher professional development, student programs, and an Equipment and Technology Loan Program in rural, high-need areas, and 4) Broader Impact Support that helps NC State faculty in developing Impact Identities and carrying out broader impacts activities integrated with their research that advance open and participatory science. While working in this unit, you will be expected to foster a supportive and welcoming environment.
The Science House's Imhotep and Kyran Anderson programs introduce elementary and middle school students to the world of STEM. Programs are designed to enhance students' enthusiasm and preparation for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) with a particular emphasis on reaching under-served and students historically underrepresented in STEM disciplines. Students actively discover the wonder of STEM through inquiry-based activities, field trips, presentations, and career exploration activities with STEM professionals.
Kyran Anderson Academy is a one week daily summer program for rising third through sixth graders. Imhotep Academy offers one week daily summer sessions, as well as Fall and Spring sessions for middle school students on Saturdays from 8:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Instructors may be hired for either or both camps.
The STEM Instructor will plan, prepare, and deliver curricula and instruction for Imhotep and Kyran Anderson camps, academies, and track-out programs.
