Purpose
As a member of the CPNA Center of Excellence team, the Electrical Engineer directs the design and installation of new or replacement electrical and automation equipment, develops standards for reliability and guidelines for engineering and maintenance activities on said equipment, ensures engineering drawings and technical information are kept up to date for equipment identification.
In addition, the Electrical Engineer also supports maintenance activities on equipment and systems. The Electrical Engineer may also be tasked with supporting maintenance activities during breakdowns, line shuts, annual shuts or when the need arises.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
  • Directs the design and installation of new or replacement equipment

  • Identify and implement process equipment improvements utilizing reliability-based maintenance philosophy.

  • Lead/manage electrical scope for major projects and initiatives within CPNA

  • Strengthen PMO projects and governance through structured planning, risk management, and reporting projects.

  • Provide advanced troubleshooting and technical leadership beyond technician capability-root cause analysis, PLC/HMI/drive systems, engineered solutions

  • Develop engineering standards (installation standards, cable schedules, documentation) that raise site-wide consistency and reliability solutions.

  • Work with planners/schedulers to develop detailed shutdown work plans. Establishing repair priorities through communications with the operating departments, line maintenance associates, and planners. Keeping Planners informed as to the status of equipment repair. Documentation of activities and status in the work orders.

  • Ensures engineering drawings, maintenance procedures and technical information are kept up to date.

  • Provide direction to maintenance associates and contract labor

  • Optimize spares holding levels, develop efficient supply contracts, and minimize stock holding costs.

  • Develop & organize training programs for maintenance associates that apply to operations, maintenance, and safety.

  • Carries out root cause analysis on equipment failures and takes appropriate measures to prevent failures from recurring. Assist other maintenance activities across CPNA as required

  • Provide engineering support to improve equipment reliability, electrical safety, and system performance.

  • Power distribution upgrade planning and coordination with Utility companies as required.

Skills & Competencies
Technical Ability:
  • Ability to effectively manage projects from conception to completion. Include budgeting, design, manpower allocation, timeline development, documentation and technical instruction.

  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical manuals including mathematical or schematic data.

  • Ability to analyze and solve problems through application of principles of mechanics, electricity, and fluid dynamics to machines and equipment.

  • Ability to understand the operation of moderately complex tools, machines and systems

  • Ability to operate and understand a variety of computer applications and systems such as but not limited to AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, MS Visio, SAP, Adobe Acrobat, Allen-Bradley PLC Logic Programing, Allen-Bradley HMI Development, Allen-Bradley Drive configuration, ibaPDA use and configuration,

Education & Experience
Minimum:
  • Bachelor's degree with a major in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Science.

  • 5 years of experience in an electrical engineering/automation role

Preferred:
  • 10 years of experience in an electrical engineering/automation role

  • Heavy Manufacturing experience in the implementation of automation projects with successful cost and performance outcomes.

  • Project management experience

Salary Range: The expected pay scale for this role is $120,300.00 - $145,100.00 annually, depending on experience, skill set, and qualifications. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for a targeted annual bonus of 15%, health and welfare benefits and 401(k) match in accordance with BlueScope policies.
