Job description

Since opening our doors in 1999, Falcon Steel has evolved into Springfield, Missouri's premier full-service steel center. What sets us apart isn't just our extensive inventory—it's our people. Our skilled team brings over 100 years of combined industry knowledge to every project.

We maintain one of the region's most comprehensive steel inventories, featuring more than 600 unique SKUs across carbon steel products. From standard dimensions to hard-to-find specialty items, our warehouse is strategically stocked to meet demanding timelines and unique specifications.

Our commitment goes beyond stocking shelves. We offer custom processing services and can source specialty grades that others can't. We know that exceptional steel solutions require a team that delivers. That's why we're expanding our crew of steel professionals who share our dedication to excellence.

Inside Sales (Steel)

Falcon Steel | Springfield, MO | Full-Time | On-Site

About the Role

Falcon Steel is looking for an Inside Sales Representative to be the first point of contact for our customers — the person who picks up the phone, answers the email, and greets the walk-in, then turns that inquiry into an accurate quote and a smooth order. You'll quote material, pricing, and lead times; enter and track orders; and keep customers informed from first call to final delivery. This role sits at the front door of the business, so it's equal parts sales, customer service, and coordination with our shop. If you're quick with numbers, great with people, and want to build a career in the steel industry, we want to talk to you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Field incoming inquiries from customers by phone, email, and in person; respond promptly with accurate quotes for material, processing, and delivery timelines.
  • Prepare and follow up on quotes — track open quotes, check in with customers, and work to convert quotes into orders.
  • Enter sales orders accurately and coordinate with the shop and delivery teams to make sure lead times quoted are lead times kept.
  • Build working knowledge of steel products — shapes, grades, gauges, and common applications — so you can help customers figure out exactly what they need, even when they're not sure themselves.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with repeat customers; learn their businesses, anticipate their needs, and be the reason they call us first.
  • Keep customers updated on order status, shipment timing, and any changes; communicate changes and cancellations promptly to the affected departments.
  • Coordinate with purchasing on material availability and buyouts for items we don't stock.
  • Resolve pricing discrepancies, order issues, and customer concerns quickly and professionally.
  • Maintain accurate records of quotes, orders, and customer communications in our systems.
  • Identify opportunities to grow existing accounts and flag promising new customer leads.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in inside sales, counter sales, customer service, or a related customer-facing role; experience in steel, metals, building materials, or industrial products is a strong plus.
  • Solid math skills — you'll be calculating pricing, weights, and quantities daily, and accuracy matters.
  • Strong communication skills on the phone, over email, and face to face; you're comfortable talking with everyone from field crews to purchasing managers.
  • Organized and able to juggle multiple quotes, orders, and customer requests at once without letting anything slip.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Outlook); experience with ERP, order entry, or CRM systems is a plus.
  • Willingness to learn steel products and terminology quickly — we'll teach the steel; you bring the drive and the people skills.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in Business or a related field is a plus.
  • A customer-first attitude and the hustle to follow up without being reminded.

Location

This is an in-office role based at Falcon Steel in Springfield, MO.
