Steel Estimator – Miscellaneous Steel & Steel Erection

Company: Urban Steel Erectors LLC (MWBE Certified)

Location: New York City (Hybrid or Remote considered)

Position Summary

Urban Steel Erectors LLC is seeking an experienced Steel Estimator to prepare competitive bids for miscellaneous steel and steel repair projects throughout the New York City metropolitan area.

The ideal candidate has experience estimating projects ranging from $100,000 to $1,000,000 and is capable of managing the entire estimating process from drawing review through bid submission.

Responsibilities

  • Review architectural and structural drawings and specifications.
  • Perform complete material and quantity takeoffs.
  • Estimate labor, equipment, fabrication, erection, and subcontract costs.
  • Prepare accurate proposals and bid packages.
  • Solicit and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Identify scope gaps, exclusions, and value engineering opportunities.
  • Prepare RFIs during the bidding process.
  • Coordinate with project management after project award.
  • Track bid results and maintain estimating records.
  • Estimate miscellaneous steel including:
    • Handrails
    • Guardrails
    • Stairs
    • Ladders
    • Platforms
    • Bollards
    • Steel reinforcement and repair
    • Structural modifications
    • Miscellaneous metals

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of steel estimating experience.
  • Demonstrated experience on projects valued between $100,000 and $1,000,000.
  • Strong blueprint reading skills.
  • Experience performing detailed takeoffs.
  • Familiarity with NYC construction practices.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, OST, PlanSwift, Tekla PowerFab, or similar estimating software.
  • Excellent Excel skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience with miscellaneous steel fabrication and installation.
  • Knowledge of NYC DOB requirements.
  • Experience with public works and prevailing wage projects.
  • Experience working with MWBE contractors.
