Job Description Steel Estimator Location: Holland, MI Position Overview: Our client is a commercial steel fabrication and installation company seeking an experienced Steel Estimator to support the preconstruction and bidding process. This office-based position is responsible for reviewing project documents, preparing accurate cost estimates, evaluating project scope, and collaborating with internal teams to develop competitive proposals. This role plays a critical part in securing new business and ensuring projects are positioned for a successful transition into operations.

Key Responsibilities: Prepare detailed material takeoffs for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, joists, and decking. Analyze architectural, structural, and mechanical drawings to develop accurate project estimates. Estimate labor, fabrication, coatings, freight, and field installation costs.

Utilize estimating software to prepare, organize, and manage bid packages. Review project specifications to identify scope gaps, exclusions, and potential risks. Prepare Requests for Information (RFIs) during the preconstruction phase.

Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor pricing. Develop complete bid proposals, including scope of work, qualifications, and exclusions. Participate in project turnover meetings to ensure a smooth handoff to project management.

Key Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years of structural steel and miscellaneous metals estimating experience. Ability to interpret structural, architectural, and mechanical drawings. Experience using steel estimating software.

Strong blueprint reading skills. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred. Working knowledge of AWS and AISC standards strongly preferred.

Previous estimating experience with a structural steel fabricator or steel erector strongly preferred. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
