THE POSITION
As a Security Officer 1 with Wernersville State Hospital, you will play an important part in creating a calm, safe, and orderly setting. Your work will help safeguard people, property, and daily operations throughout the hospital grounds. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
This role supports the safety and security of consumers, staff, visitors, and property across the hospital campus. The work helps maintain order, support emergency response, and ensure seamless operations. As a Security Officer 1, you will perform the following duties:
  • Facility Patrol: Monitor tunnels, buildings, and grounds to identify safety hazards, unauthorized persons, and unusual conditions
  • Traffic Control: Enforce vehicle regulations, maintain orderly parking, and support proper traffic flow on hospital property
  • Assistance Service: Escort or help visitors, consumers, and staff by providing directions, support, and safe movement
  • Emergency Response: Assist with searches, incident investigations, and coordination with emergency services
  • Report Completion: Document daily activities, incidents, and observations according to established procedures
  • Operational Support: Perform inspections, deliver items, and assist with communication center coverage when needed

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 12:00 AM to 8:00 AM, with varied days off and two 15-minute breaks. You will work every other weekend. Schedule may change based on operational needs.
  • Overtime as operationally necessary
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $38,515.00 (before taxes).

WORK BEHAVIOR 2 - WRITES INCIDENT REPORTS
Writes incident reports which includes a detailed narrative description of the nature of security violations/other incidents such as taking photos of patient injuries and storing in the computer, vehicle accident reports, incidents involving possible patient abuse cases including but not limited to saving, archiving, and showing video through use of CCTV. Maintains logs signing visitors in and out, checks ID badges, records names of employees on grounds after normal working hours, checks on the status of employees by doing a door report through the door access system, logs keys in and out, and logs other incidences related to the security of the assigned areas.
