Job description

About the team:

Tapestry is a team within Alphabet working to build the AI-powered electric grid. We are tackling one of the world's most important infrastructure challenges: helping the energy system become more visible, understandable, reliable, affordable, abundant, and clean.

Originally born at X, Alphabet's moonshot factory, Tapestry brings together experts in energy, AI, software, engineering, and product to build tools that help the electricity ecosystem plan smarter, move faster, and operate more efficiently.

This is a global effort. Tapestry supports partners across the U.S., U.K., Chile, New Zealand, Australia, and Brazil as they work toward a cleaner, more resilient energy future.

Joining Tapestry means doing high-impact work with a multidisciplinary team tackling a problem that matters at global scale. Learn more about our team and our mission here.

About the role: The Product Engine of Change

As a Product Lead for the Data Platform at Tapestry, you will be the visionary yet hands-on producer leader of the next-generation foundation that powers transformative x-functional use cases, from Agentic insights to hyper-scale grid planning. You will build a scalable, secure, and user-centric platform that empowers internal product teams and global partners to discover and harness data at unprecedented scale. Your mission is to democratize energy data while rigorously enforcing the privacy, compliance, and governance standards essential for the world's most critical infrastructure.

How you will make 10x impact:

  • Platform Strategy: Architect the technical vision for usability, scalability, and reliability, ensuring the platform serves as a robust foundation for diverse internal and partner-led energy innovations.
  • Grid Model Orchestration and Collaboration: Define the strategy for multi-user collaboration and branching within the Grid Data API. You will architect the "git-like" versioning systems that allow teams to manage concurrent "future-state" grid proposals, ensuring seamless merging, conflict resolution, and change-tracking across the Tapestry ecosystem.
  • Discovery and Truth: Implement advanced data governance through automated lineage and metadata management, creating a single source of truth that powers high-fidelity derived insights.
  • Security Architecture: Architect the Zero-Trust identity framework aligned with industry standards (ISO, pen testing, threat detection).
  • Privacy by Design: Lead the development of automated controls for GDPR, CCPA, and access management.
  • Build vs. Buy: Evaluate 3rd party tools and shepherd procurement to optimize for a lean, high-velocity architecture.
  • Durable Decision Making: Lead complex architectural trade-offs, balancing immediate application pressure against long-term platform stability.

Who You Are:

  • An experienced product leader with deep enterprise software experience
  • Comfortable navigating ambiguity and building products from zero to one in a fast-paced environment.
  • Deeply customer-oriented you are committed to delivering tools that not only meet functional requirements but also bring clarity, delight, and value to users and stakeholders alike
  • Experienced in cross-disciplinary collaboration across software, AI/ML, and domain experts.
  • Passionate about the value digital technologies can provide to the grid
  • A strong communicator who can represent the product to both internal and external audiences.
  • Ideally, you have startup or small-team experience and thrive in high-ownership environments.

What you should have:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science.
  • 8+ years of product management experience
  • Proven success building and shipping software products
  • Proven experience and technical fluency in defining, building, and scaling platforms that support advanced AI/ML model training, deployment (MLOps), and feature management.
  • Experience working with enterprise customers
