Job description

Job Summary:

The Startup Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the startup process of newly installed HVAC systems in residential new construction projects. This role ensures that all equipment is properly installed, tested, and documented, meeting company and manufacturer standards. The coordinator will work closely with field technicians, supervisors, home builders, and manufacturers to ensure efficient and high-quality startups.


Key Responsibilities:

Coordination & Scheduling

  • Schedule startup technicians to ensure timely inspections and equipment testing.
  • Monitor and adjust schedules in real-time for efficiency.
  • Ensure all startup appointments align with project deadlines.

Technical Oversight & Compliance

  • Verify that all HVAC systems are properly installed and meet code, manufacturer, and company standards.
  • Ensure startup documentation is completed accurately, including warranty registration, equipment serial numbers, and performance reports.
  • Work with technicians to troubleshoot and resolve startup issues.
  • Ensure refrigerant charging, airflow balancing, and system commissioning are performed correctly.
  • Assist with warranty-related startup concerns and ensure follow-ups on callbacks.

Communication & Documentation

  • Serve as the primary liaison between builders, installation teams, and startup technicians.
  • Track all startup progress and report any issues or delays to management.
  • Ensure all startup paperwork is submitted and stored correctly.
  • Communicate regularly with technicians regarding company policies, procedural changes, and quality expectations.

Quality Control & Customer Satisfaction

  • Provide feedback to installation crews to improve performance.
  • Address builder or homeowner concerns regarding HVAC startups and system operation.
  • Work with the service department to transition startup projects into regular service and warranty processes.

Job Requirements:

Experience & Education:

  • Required: Minimum 2 years of experience in HVAC startups, service, or installation (residential new construction preferred).
  • Preferred: HVAC technical certification or training.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of HVAC startup processes, including refrigerant charging, airflow testing, and system diagnostics.
  • Knowledge of residential new construction HVAC installations, including ductwork, zoning, and controls.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and equipment manuals.
  • Familiarity with HVAC manufacturers’ startup procedures and warranty registration.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC load calculations and airflow balancing.

Soft Skills & Other Requirements:

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with builders, technicians, and management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
