  • Design and build high-fidelity, functional prototypes in LLM-powered applications to allow the design team to test assumptions and validate experiences.

Job description

The opportunity

Adobe Design is looking for a Staff Design Engineer to join our Insights design team. This role is built for someone who is equally at home prototyping new product experiences leveraging agentic tech, architecting the tooling that makes a design organization run, and holding the line on craft when it would be easier to ship something "good enough."

You'll work at the intersection of AI, data, and design-driven product development, building the systems & infrastructure that make it possible for the rest of the Insights design team do their best work. You'll also bring a finisher's sensibility to the product experiences we ship, and help architect how we scale our team's quality bar, as our processes & workflows transform.

As a staff-level IC, you'll lead by doing. You'll model what excellence looks like, create the conditions for others to reach it, and build tools that multiply the impact of every designer on the team.

In this role, you will:
  • Architect & build internal tools, agentic utilities, and workflow infrastructure that streamline how our design team operates. You'll be reducing friction, eliminating repetitive work, and letting designers focus on what they're best at & where they can make the biggest impact on the user experience. You'll identify leverage points in our workflows and build toward them, with the goal that the tools you build outlast your involvement and spread beyond our immediate team.

  • Create the future by helping our innovative team accelerate our learnings and "fail fast." Design and build high-fidelity, functional prototypes in LLM-powered applications that allow our design team to pressure-test assumptions, explore AI-powered interactions, and validate experiences before they reach production-scale engineering.

  • Develop a shared prototyping toolkit & end-to-end processes that our design team, and our business partners, can use to democratize building within our specific Insights environment. Evaluate scaling this work to support composable systems & components for insight-driven product experiences more broadly across Adobe.

  • Raise the bar on craft by bringing finesse-level quality to the insight experiences we ship. Close the gap between design intent & technical implementation by partnering with production engineers to ensure our emerging development processes are architected, from the ground up, to deliver high-quality UX.

What you need to succeed
  • You bring a growth mindset to everything. You're genuinely energized by how product design is evolving. You bring curiosity, continuous learning, and a maker's mindset to your work. You're comfortable exploring and experimenting. You have a bias to action.

  • 10+ years of experience at the intersection of design & engineering

  • Hands-on experience building & shipping LLM-powered apps, automations, or agentic systems

  • A body of work (production-level shipped product) demonstrating quality & attention to detail

  • Experience in design organizations & an understanding of what it takes to earn designers' trust

What may help you thrive

  • You have a track record in building libraries, frameworks, or internal tools that designers and/or engineers adopt and extend, with evidence that the systems you left behind kept working.

  • A background working in enterprise product development/SaaS environments

  • Experience building data & analytics tools, or with data visualization libraries (Vega, D3)

  • Experience building systems for communication & collaboration

  • Multi-surface/platform thinking, particularly at enterprise scale

Why this role

This isn't a maintenance role. You'll be building something genuinely new at a company with extraordinary reach and impact. You'll be part of a strong, diverse team that truly values joy, candor, and innovation. You'll work with a design leadership team that believes design should be a strategic force multiplier, not just a supporting function. And you'll do it at a moment when the industry is being reshaped, which means you get to help define what great looks like.
