What is an SST job?

An SST (Site Safety Training) job typically refers to roles in the construction industry that require workers to complete safety training under local regulations, such as New York City's SST requirements. These jobs often involve responsibilities related to workplace safety, hazard prevention, and compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards. Workers may need to obtain an SST card by completing required training courses before performing certain tasks on construction sites.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of an SST (Student Support Teacher)?

As an SST, your day typically involves working one-on-one or in small groups with students who need additional academic, emotional, or behavioral support. You’ll assess student progress, collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt lessons, and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) where applicable. Regularly communicating with parents and participating in team meetings are also important aspects of the job. This role is dynamic and requires balancing direct instruction with ongoing coordination among staff and specialists to foster student success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Sst position, and why are they important?

To excel as an SST (Student Support Teacher), you need a strong background in education, child development, and special education best practices, typically supported by a teaching degree and appropriate licensure. Familiarity with IEP (Individualized Education Program) management systems, assessment tools, and student data tracking software is often required. Strong soft skills such as empathy, collaboration, and effective communication are crucial for working with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams. These abilities ensure each student's learning needs are identified and supported, leading to improved educational outcomes.
